  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

    Don't Need God

Justin, this made me think of a quote that addresses your concern as to whether or not God is useful. Please bare with me, the quote speaks about monasticism and the modern mind, but you could easily substitute God for each monastic reference and it would fit. "What does monasticism offer to...

    Second Terrace

I wanted to mention a very nice blog kept by Fr. Jonathan Tobias, an Orthodox priest, which I've been following lately: http://janotec.typepad.com/terrace/ Check it out, controversy and all, you'll be glad you did!

Fun Thread:Tell me something random/unique/peculiar about yourself

I was stung by a whole nest of yellow jackets when I was a toddler...I tell you if you want to suddenly achieve superhuman speed, voluntarily upset a nest of yellow jackets. My mom couldn't catch me, I was running around like a little wild man. I also can be strange about having my foods...

Fun Thread:Tell me something random/unique/peculiar about yourself

I practice a Russian martial art called Systema, I can arc my right eyebrow (a recessive trait) and give "the peoples' eye" for all to see, this is also possible because I have a slightly weaker right eye (lazy eye), and one time I had 14 teeth taken out of my mouth in one sitting at the dentist...

    Byzantine-esque chant in Baptist church!?

I have some Scotch-Irish blood in me, so this does give me some warm fuzzies. Still, as Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell sang, "ain't nothing like the real thing, baby." http://christinthemountains.blogspot.com/2007/02/from-roman-byzantium-to-old-regular.html

    Help with a Paper

Hello Everyone, I am taking a Philosophy of Religion class and want to write a 15 page paper on (what else?) the Orthodox view of God. This is difficult because the arguments for and against God in the class have a Westernized rational bias and Orthodoxy doesn't seem to compartmentalize it's...

    a staretz is dying

Lord, have mercy. I remember first hearing about Fr. Calciu in the book Christ the Eternal Tao by Heiromonk Damascene. He came to one of the brotherhood's monasteries in northern California in 1997 and gave a speech about his experiences with the uncreated light. Here is the second of two...

    Troubling Question

Hey folks, I was talking online to my friend (just friends) about the topic of marriage and we got into an argument about the nature of love (the kind found in marriage). I told her that I wanted to eventually marry a virtuous Orthodox girl and have a marriage blessed by the Church. My belief...

Looking for help with a song

Hey, folks, I've got this beautiful song stuck in my head: http://magnatune.com/artists/albums/threeholies-hymns/hifi.m3u it's the 6th track, entitled Who Is The Great Lord, and I think the language is liturgical Greek, but I may be wrong. I was wondering if anyone who understands the words...
