  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Because they are afraid. If the fundamentalists and evangelicals did not polarize themselves with their own schools and media, then they really wouldn't have any presence in society. Having these systems makes them appear credible while also making their sub-culture tangible for the believers.

Your either all in for christ or your not in...

I disagree with this. Transformation is a gradual process. Most People do not just change. Many Christians still have a addictions and problems that still need to be overcome. He is almost saying that the people who are coming to Jesus are not doing it the right way; he said "They call to jesus...

Is faith a choice? Can you simply choose not to doubt?

Well the idea sure is scary. Though hell is a theme within most religions across the world, and its depiction varies (this gets back to what I think about pascals wager). Because of this, I see hell as a psychological mechanism, that helps us cope with an unfair world. We can feel comfortable...

Is faith a choice? Can you simply choose not to doubt?

You are describing Pascals Wager, which says that it is better to spend your life following god rather than not believing and being wrong. As an agnostic, I personally find this line of thinking faulty. If we are to wager a theistic belief, then we still must make sure that we choose the correct...

    Your interpretation of these lyrics

The lyrics from the bible are being used in a philosophical sense. The Rebellious and prideful Judas is being used as a metaphor to show that the signer is innocent, and foolish. In essence, the singer desires a sexually driven relationship with a bad boy type of man. Judas was most likely also...

Is faith a choice? Can you simply choose not to doubt?

I'm sorry but I think that you misinterpreted what I have said. It is perfectly healthy for a christian to worry how much they believe, because It is evidence that they are willing to comprehend and except the message of Jesus; it will help them grow in faith! On the other hand, would a...

Is faith a choice? Can you simply choose not to doubt?

If you didn't believe, then you would not be worried about belief and your relationship with god. When I was a christian, I went through this process on a fairly regular basis. There are many forms of obession associated with OCD. This in paticular is called scrupulocity Simply know that it is...

    God keeps punishing me

You seem to be thinking really hard about what has a happened in your life, no doubtly because you are exploring alternate forms and systems of belief. I am presuming that you are fairly new to agnosticism? From what I have gathered from your post, I would say that you are still anxious/afraid...
