  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Richard Swinburne - a maverick, or an example?

Hello folks, Continuing on the subject of Orthodoxy and philosophy (a previous thread): I came across this interview with Prof. Richard Swinburne today -- a philosopher who left Anglicanism and converted to Orthodoxy over a decade ago. Perhaps you would care to read it, when you have the...

    Orthodoxy and Philosophy

Thank you for your post. I am actually a Physics student, rather than a philosopher, but I do study philosophy in my spare time, have occasionally given talks on apologetics, and know quite a few atheists, who I've enjoyed sparring with from time to time. I must confess I'd be disappointed if...

    Orthodoxy and Philosophy

Quite likely. One is in Oxford, the other in Cambridge. Both care about the rational defense of Christianity, and will have met each other at many conferences.

    Orthodoxy and Philosophy

Thank you all for the welcome. I would tend to agree with you that ordinary believers do not need to rely on philosophical argumentation in order to be justified in believing what they do. I think some epistemological position along the lines of Alvin Plantinga's thought can be used to...

    Orthodoxy and Philosophy

Hello, It's been a long time since I posted anything to ChristianForums. I hope I am in the right place for this post. Over the last year I have become acquainted with Orthodoxy through a couple of lecturers I know -- they have taken me to a service, shared a lot of books with me, etc. It's...

    Info on Two Hagin Books

Hello folks, I wonder if any of you can help. I need to know the city of publication for these books. This is the info. I have on them: Kenneth Hagin, The Midas Touch [city of publication? Kenneth Hagin Ministries, 2000] Kenneth Hagin Jr., Another Look at Faith [city? Kenneth Hagin...

    Forgiveness, NT and OT

Hello folks, I was wondering what your take on the harmony (or disparity) of NT and OT teaching on forgiveness is. Do you see a contradiction between the OT's 'eye for an eye' and Christ's 'turn the other cheek'? Shalom, T7

    Disney's Narnia

Hello folks, It's been a while. As some of you know, I've started a degree at St. Andrews, and have been a bit bogged down with Physics and Philosophy ever since! But I wanted to see what some of you guys thought about the recent Narnia film (ok, not all that recent, but better late than...

Expressing one logical constant in terms of two others

I was just wondering whether anyone here would know how to go about expressing '&', 'v' and '<->' in terms of '¬' and '->'? There may be one or two logicians among you ;)

    Intellectual Work on the Sabbath

Hello, I was wondering what you folks think about mental work on the Sabbath - doing Physics problems, reading philosophy textbooks, revising for exams. Is the Sabbath merely a cessation of physical work, or should we put down pen and paper too? Blessings, T7

    Decoder trouble

Hi, I have tried all my players - including those two. It seems that the decoder (which they will all rely upon) has stopped functioning.

Thanks for the reply. A box popped up saying So it would appear the decoder is still there. Any ideas what to do next? Cheers.

    Decoder trouble

Hi, I thought there might be a computer whiz somewhere on this forum who may be able to point me in the right direction with this problem: My computer has suddenly stopped playing DVDs (though it will still open them and run normal CDs). It seems the decoder is to blame - at least...
