  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

    Anyone remember UncleBud?

I remember UncleBud! :) I also remember many others who posted on this thread before me, actually most of them. There are some new names I don't remember seeing before. Haven't been posting much the last couple of years, but I read every now and then.

How long is your Sunday Divine Liturgy?

Is that because the "silent" prayers are read aloud? I think the length of the "silent" prayers is pretty much the only difference between St. Chrysostom's and St. Basil's. In the church where I usually go the "silent" prayers are not read aloud, and it is very difficult to notice if the liturgy...

How long is your Sunday Divine Liturgy?

Church of Finland Divine liturgy 1:30-2:00 h, begins typically around 10 am (some churches the hours begin at 10 am, followed by liturgy, while in some churches they start reading the hours around 9:45, and the liturgy begins after the hours)

    Who do you stand with?

He speaks at least Russian. I've heard him converse in fluent and well pronounced Russian with an Estonian, which probably means that his Estonian could be better, but anyway, he speaks at least one of the languages used in Estonia.

    Who do you stand with?

I'm not too familiar with the dispute about the use of the name Macedonia, but it made me think about a similar situation closer to me. There is an area called Karelia (where my grandmother came from), part of which is in present day Finland and major part in present day Russia. Confusions are...

    Georgian Orthodox Church

I went to Georgia a year ago (also to Armenia). It's a beautiful country where the Orthodox faith is very visible. People visit churches, cross themselves when they pass a church, there are a lot of Orthodox book & icon stores on the streets. In Georgia I visited Tbilisi, Mtskheta (Sveti...

Call to murder Jews distributed in Ukraine churches

I guess I'm the right guy to explain because I'm the one who put it on the Finnish site... :D (I was recently asked to act as a news editor for them). I took it from Interfax but I use the Russian version of the Interfax site (there are more news there and there also seems to be a time lag on...

    Use of incense

Is frankincense the incense the Catholics use? That's the smell I like best. It's used sometimes in Orthodox churches, too, and it seems like it was used more in the past. I didn't know what the name of that incense was so I went to a Catholic store and bought it there. They didn't know the name...

How do you celebrate your Nameday!?

Yes, that's correct, but you know, the Lutherans celebrate certain things on different days than the Orthodox, e.g. St. Michael the Archangel is in September in the Lutheran calendar but in November in the Orthodox calendar. I mean, even if it's November 15 today in both the Lutheran and the...

How do you celebrate your Nameday!?

I've got two name days to celebrate: the Lutheran one and the Orthodox one. :) I usually get more congratulations on my Lutheran name day because there are more Lutherans and the Lutheran calendar is the one most people follow, and I sometimes bring some cakes or pastries to work on my Lutheran...
