  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

God's immediate role/control of your life

Here is a great example of what I'm talking about: (I can't post links yet but it's from a thread here in General Theology titled 'Physical touch in Scripture') "Over the past few years, I've been able to give over a lot of my "security blanket" issues to God. I've improved my self-esteem by...

God's immediate role/control of your life

No offense, but I don't see how dying infants, serial rapists and homosexuals are connected. Do you believe that God's only plan is for us to live with him forever? I think we should always be careful when it comes to placing too much emphasis on this physical world versus the spiritual, but...

God's immediate role/control of your life

LDG, thank you for responding and posting examples from scripture. I really appreciate it :) I'm just beginning to 'find my faith', so to speak, and the idea of being one the chosen/elect, or predestined to come to God, is a little bit over my head, at least for the moment. I don't know how I...

God's immediate role/control of your life

Sorry if my title is a little unclear. I wasn't sure how to word this. What I mean is - sometimes you will see people say things such as: "Don't worry, God has a plan for you and you are exactly where you should be" or "God never gives you more than you can handle" And these ideas are very...

    Anxiety & Christianity - a quiet rant

Hannah, thank you for being open and posting this. Severe social anxiety is such a difficult topic to discuss because so many people don't understand what it's like. It is a horrible, horrible thing to go through. You aren't alone though. Social anxiety has had a profound impact on my life...

    Theology on Tap

What sort of weak Catholics do you know? :D (Just a little tongue-in-cheek humor from someone who comes from a large Catholic background in Chicago -- no offense intended!) On topic, that sounds like a great idea and way for young adults especially to grow in their faith and socialize with one...

    Paul and the Gospels

I haven't fully finished reading this thread yet and so I don't know how it has all played out, but I feel the need to jump in and tell you that you are embarrassing yourself. The tone of your posts here reek of superiority, pride, and big-headedness. You're making yourself look ignorant and...

    Basis for Paul's Authority?

By that I mean, what is the basis for Pauline theology (since not all of the Epistles were written by the Apostle Paul) in the Bible? Why is it that we place so much emphasis and authority on his interpretation and ideas instead of those of other Early Church Fathers? It seems that sometimes...

    2 Cor 12 - 'Paul's Vision and His Thorn'

Can someone help me understand this passage better? I've just begun really reading and studying the Bible and I am a little confused here. From the ESV translation: "I must go on boasting. Though there is nothing to be gained by it, I will go on to visions and revelations of the Lord. 2 I know...

    Experiencing God's love

What does it mean to experience God's love? Is this love direct or indirect? By that I mean, do you experience God's love by being part of His creation? Is it, in a way, God's love when you experience love from or for another person (-- seeing as we are all from him)? And if that's the case...
