    World Flood???

Just referring to major flood events that occurred as the ice sheets retreated and glacier-bound lakes were released. The Washington scablands are considered to be a result of such a dam burst.

    World Flood???

I would think the latter parts of the Ice Age is a better source of the Flood legend.

    Denominations

I grew up in, and still attend the Christian Reformed Church, from the Dutch Reformed tradition. With respect to being TE, I've never felt any pressure toward creationism, although there are more conservative elements depending on the congregation. Certainly the denominationally-supported...

Explaining Geology (and science) to laymen

I don't know if it's weird or not, but I don't think I recall ever being asked to speak about the Flood by other Christians. I've been a practicing geologist for over 25 years. Most people I knew in the churches I've been a member of generally did not have a problem around an old earth. I know...

    Model Trains

I enjoy model railroading and have a small HO layout currently. I have not paid much attention to the market for a while, but the costs are definitely quite a bit higher, but if you can work with the raw materials, that can keep costs down. HO freight cars are getting ridiculous. Granted they...

Church Stats for Canada: Big Decline

Yep. I'd say we are much more like Europe than the US in this regard.

    Jeepers Thread

I've got a stock 1998 XJ, 2-door, but I just don't get out and about much (time and money as usual). It certainly needs a few add-ons yet to be properly capable. Sorry, no pic available where I am.

    Astronomy?

Used to do a lot of backyard astronomy when I was younger, but the city lights just keep getting brighter and brighter and time seems less and less available. Anyway, I still have may original telescope, 4" Omcon Newtonian reflector with a 7x50 viewfinder. It's on an inadequate equatorial...

“Dinosaur” petroglyphs at Kachina Bridge site

I just recently read that too, specifically in respect to the griffin. I think the name Mallon cited is the same one I read as well.

    Creationism in Canada

The poll sounds about right from my experience. I'm not sure how it would exactly play out in our congregation, but it's a bit of a non-issue. Most seem to not hold radically strong opinions on the matter.

    Men Step Up

There probably are but in the context of the family and it's degradation I think these are some of the fundamental issues. What other problems are you thinking of?

    Men Step Up

As long as our society is rooted deeply consumerism and individualism it's going to be an uphill battle.

Should wives be free to choose to not have children?

I would hope that such a question would be dealt with before marriage.

    Fake wedding cake trend?

Our 'fake cake' was a papier-mache rock with hole stuffed with real cake that we drilled out (I'm a geologist). My sister made the 'rock' and my mom baked the cake, and my dad built the 'drill'. To paraphrase the Mastercard adds; cost of cake mix - $3; meaningfulness (and hilarity)...
