  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

    Human fetuses do have memories

I thought I should point out that your link actually leads to a roll call vote of an amendment (no. 288) for the Partial-Birth Abortion Ban Act of 1997, not the actual act itself. A roll call of the Partial-Birth Abortion Ban Act of 1997 can be seen here: U.S. Senate: Legislation & Records...

    Abortion Lingo

I don't know if ethics come in when discussing labels. Usually a group that supports a position will choose a favorable and politically correct label for themselves. Opponents can and have used non-pc and exagerated labels for both sides. Neither completely describes the position accurately. I...

Which is a good person to you?

Just as being a good person does not make someone a Christian.

    Human fetuses do have memories

The argument for and against abortion always comes down to the different viewpoints on the definition of what is human and when life begins. Most people appear to value life. I see this by a general condemnation of the taking of life once a certain threshold is passed. For some, this threshold...

    Homosexuals and Bisexuals (2)

See... and again, it would make sense to me for a photographer to be able to refuse to shoot second marriages if it went against their convictions.

    Homosexuals and Bisexuals (2)

It's a good point. Christians should not only focus on the popular issue of the day but should strive for consistency in their pursuit of personal morals. Though I might point out that religion is a protected class as well. Not sure how the scenario with a photographer refusing an atheist...

    Homosexuals and Bisexuals (2)

It seems my issue is with the protected class legislation. This discussion has brought up black marriages as a comparison. However, if a photographer turned down a couple simply because of their skin color, then that, of course, is wrong. Whereas this photographer, who turned down a same sex...

    Homosexuals and Bisexuals (2)

So even if she would have kept her religious views to herself, she may have been able to turn down this particular couple without a problem. But if it happened enough times that a "pattern" could be established, she could still see legal repercussions. For that reason, keeping quiet about her...

    Homosexuals and Bisexuals (2)

I realize there are protections for the Church, but Christians may still be interested in this topic because it has potential to affect them individually if they are not offered the same options as a religious institution. What I get from your answer is that her crime was not that her...

    Homosexuals and Bisexuals (2)

I'm not trying to argue semantics here. By forced participation, I only meant forcing her to be at a ceremony that went against her personally held religious beliefs. Even though her attendance would be purely for business purposes, once they asked her, she had to go or face legal actions...

    Homosexuals and Bisexuals (2)

I've seen the argument... How does same sex marriage affect others? If one don't agree with it then he or she just shouldn't participate. But here we have suggestion of forced acceptance and forced participation.

    Homosexuals and Bisexuals (2)

Then to jump back to daniel777's post; This would be a reason why Christians are focused on this issue.

    Homosexuals and Bisexuals (2)

But she didn't deny the couple services because of their homosexual "status". She turned them down based on the activity. For example, the discrimination law would make sense if she refused to serve them in a restaurant, or sell them electronics, or rent them a car, etc. But asking her to...

    Homosexuals and Bisexuals (2)

It is right to have the freedom to determine our own religious and moral beliefs. What we have to watch for is if the legal push for same sex marriage becomes a way to force acceptance of homosexuality and take away the ability to make that personal moral decision. The example I most recently...

    Socialism...

Which if you agree with the generalization that Republicans favor reducing the size of goverment while Democrats favor increasing the size and scope of goverment, that may be an interesting reason for people voting Republican because of their faith.
