  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

    Question time!

I was wondering it the clothing had some message that was found offensive, and not because of its Christian content. I didn't mean to give you the impression I was ignoring you. The fact the place was strongly Christian only makes this question more pertinent to me. I would add that schools...

    Question time!

I know the Nicene Creed. It is referring to things that are in scripture. I would hope you agree, unless you think the virgin birth, the resurrection, the forthcoming return of Jesus to judge the living and the dead, and the neverending Kingdom are actually teachings of Christianity that somehow...

    Question time!

Where? Praying in school is allowed as long as the school itself isn't sponsoring it. That's not something you can "enforce," it's something you're simply allowed to do. Uh... why does the KKK matter? And I was asking if you knew what clothing it was; if that's what you won't tell me, I'm out...

    Question time!

You misunderstand me. Or I misspoke, whichever. When I say "I don't think God exists," I mean if you were to ask me "Do you think God exists?" I would not say "Yes." Considering I've explained this at least three times now, I think I might just not know how to adequately illustrate the...

    Question time!

You seem to be saying that if the Universe doesn't care, we don't matter at all. Why is that? What is it about us that makes us completely meaningless in your mind, unless there's a God? Further, you seem to be saying that if I find my own purpose, I'm just disguising the fact that I don't have...

    Question time!

Christians are allowed to pray in class. I can't speak for what clothing you're allowed to wear, but how do you know it was because of the Christian message rather than what people may have found offensive about it? I'm actually wondering if this was a t-shirt that said something that people...

    Question time!

Can you give me some examples? I think I was referring to the English being Protestant in the same way I'd refer to the Americans being Christian. If I'm not mistaken, during the 18th century Britain was predominantly Protestant. It was a minor point anyway. I'll defer to what you say about...

    Question time!

I totally neglected this. Thanks. You're more than welcome. Discussion is good. :) I feel like you're talking about the ACLU here or something, which is a secular organization AFAIK, not an atheist one. Either way, a question; if America were to become a theocracy, do you believe that would be...

    Question time!

How do we know to trust the apparitions of saints? If you'd like to send me some information, please do. Why assume the Universe was created at all? God was certainly never created, yet you would assert He exists. Why can't the same be said of the Universe? Why can't we simply not know what...

    Question time!

I guess that's fair. I've sort of learned to avoid saying "Christians do _____" in that sense because generalizing to that extent always gets on someone's nerves. But, I have to agree that the Pope and other religious leaders have/should have no bearing on whether someone is a true Christian. We...

    Question time!

It was a bit of hyperbole on my part. Obviously, there must be a few Christians who have the same ideas about Scripture and God. I'm saying there's a lot of diversity, I would say more so than any other religion of which I'm aware. I've come to understand that lately in this thread. Thanks for...

    Question time!

How does that bear out? Does 2 Peter 1:20 actually preclude there being multiple interpretations, or are some Christians just completely wrong when they give a different answer? The problem is that a big reason so many people don't like these activities is because it goes against their...

    Question time!

I think I understand what you are saying. Mostly I was wondering whether, if you were presented with this evidence, you would scrutinize it even if you thought it had a chance of seriously challenging your faith. From what you say I think the answer is yes. Again, I know you are a true believer...

    Question time!

I was thinking more along the lines of, what if God set the world in motion and let evolution take its course until He arrived at creatures capable of loving Him. So if God didn't create man Himself, he mustn't actually be a god? Is that a play on the half-shekel tax? ;) I know that Christians...
