  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

    The "Name That Fallacy" Game

Ahh… you hurt my feelings. Anyway all these are fallacies and they do apply here, although I will say some may apply loosely. Besides I was just having fun but now I guess I’ll have to defend my claims. That’s what I was trying to say. The article is implying that what...

    The "Name That Fallacy" Game

Nope I don’t see any fallacies here. Well except for: Appeal to a non-existent authority Appeal to widespread belief Argument ad nauseam Hypothesis contrary to fact Least plausible hypothesis Argument by scenario Disproof by fallacy and Pious fraud That’s all I can think of off...

Is there anything moral about ethics?

That’s really not the point of this hypothetical situation. We could come up with countless “what ifs” but the real purpose is to determine the morality of an action. We know that the ethical choice would probably be to choose to protect the greater good. So the real question is would it be...

Is there anything moral about ethics?

Sorry it took me so long to respond. In the OP I added You to the list of victims in my hypothetical situation. Lets just omit that for the sake of argument. I think it will make things easier. Why would it be less moral to allow hundres of people to die? Its one thing to let people die but...

Is there anything moral about ethics?

A mentally unstable man straps a bomb around his body and then straps a new-born baby on top of the bomb. He then strategically places himself in a crowd of people. If his bomb were to explode in the crowd the blast would kill hundreds of people, the baby, himself, and you. You are the only...

    I've been struck by skepticism

That’s because the chair is not empirical knowledge, it’s a priori. It is necessary to distinguish knowledge from opinion or perceptions. The problem here is that how can we actually know that we have knowledge of a thing as everything learned is learned through perception...

    Is God Perfect?

Well you got me. It did insult me and I reacted to quickly out of that emotion. My hats off to you for getting a rise out of the big bad atheist and I too hope that our future conversations will be more civil.

    Is God Perfect?

That’s odd? I thought you were a christian. I question your religion with logic and reason and you feel like I’m attacking you personally? Why not take this opportunity to try and convince me that I’m wrong with logic and reason or is hate all you preach? I thought your first...

    Is God Perfect?

The argument is not what change is wanted, needed, or desired by a perfect being but rather that a perfect being which wanted, needed, or desired would necessarily be imperfect and therefore could not exist in the context of the Judea/Christian belief or any belief that considers their god...

    Is God Perfect?

Well then please allow me to retort. The concept of “perfectness” was generalized for the sake of argument. Although we do ascribe to our own ideas of subjective terms such as perfection/imperfection, it must be agreed that for a being to fit into the concept of “perfectness” it must not want...

    Physical traits of new earth

I hope the new earth will have trees with delicious fruit on them that we can’t eat, talking snakes, golden calf’s to worship, schizophrenic fathers that take their first born sons on long walks with the purpose of murdering them, talking bushes, torture, rape, incest, murder…Oh wait that was...

    Is God Perfect?

Well I have to say I get a lot of help from my wife. There would be no way I could make it through this storm without her but it will be worth it, you know? I wish I could have done it sooner but I took the military route in life and ended up getting a late start in “formal academics”. What’s...

    Is God Perfect?

I agree, however no matter how much the concept of “perfectness” is contorted attributes such as needs, wants, and desires cannot relate to the term. There would be no creation if god were perfect. Thanks for your words of encouragement and kudos on the degree. I can’t imagine how...

    Eternity?

Anyway I’ve seen people say I would spend eternity worshiping, playing video games, basketball…ect, some gave the standard infinite/finite answer, and some just don’t know. It’s no surprise that these type of rational arguments are quickly replaced with misdirection. The conclusion… I can’t...
