  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

    Why are Protestants so Anti-Catholic?

From an Orthodox Christian perspective, In our quest to be learned Orthodox Christians, we find the more we read and learn, the less we know. It is presumptious for us to conclude the string is 'anti-catholic'. As we learn what sadly divides us as Christians, it is easy to conclude one is 'anti'...

    "One True Church"

I must say that Blessed Theophan the Recluse had some really powerful things to say. They're worth repeating! BTW, from your avatar, are you an Orthodox clergy? Please clarify for my curiosity as its nice to know when a person is wearing a cassock.

Pope: Other Christians not true churches

I really don't have a good answer for you. It would involve a significant amount sociological, demographical, and historical studies. In a thumbnail, when the USA came into being after its war of independence from Great Britain, traditions brought to this country at its inception, and later by...

    a place to call home

I experienced the not-so-dramatic change in the Holy Mass in 1964 when it was translated into English resulting from the earlier sessions of Vatican II. Indeed, the altar was turned around but there was no pretense in removing the older or 'high altar'. Yes, the language was initially...

Pope: Other Christians not true churches

Glory to Jesus Christ! May I suggest consideration of various events such as economic development, social and political expansionism, and colonialism, that likely have had more impact upon the woes of the various countries to which you refer, rather than an assessment of 'failure' or 'blame'...

Well, I'll tell you that juggling just one book can have its challenges. Last month, in haste, a sticky note was put on the page for my chanting of the multi-Alleluia after the Epistle. The sticky note broke as I grabbed it so I couldn't find the page and chant the three-part Alleluias...

Pope: Other Christians not true churches

Glory to God! I'm pleased of your positive interests with dialogue amongst the Apostolic Churches - as you know, Rome's one of them - though there's been no intercommunion between Rome and the remaining Orthodox Churches since approximately 1054 AD (a date which I view as the 'straw that broke...

Christ is in our Midst! I am new to this forum and wish to welcome you all as Christ. One cannot deny that recent pronouncements made by His Holiness the Pope Benedict XVI, concerning the validity of other churches and declaring Orthodoxy 'defective', seem quite contradictory with his earlier...

I was never a great acrobat - I remember being at a sports stadium once - does that count? I was watching a sports event and later had to testify at the Brutus Commission. It had something to do with Julius Caesar....maybe that's why Constantine calls me an old man. (I'm joking, but some...

    Introduction

Christ is in our Midst! Greetings, I'm Reader Bede. My son, Emperor Constantine, suggested I join this forum. I'm named for the seventh century Benedictine Saint, Venerable Bede. He was a prominent historian and theologian of his time having written the first commentaries on the Epistles and...
