  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

    Where is God?

This will be a somewhat open-ended question and you can feel free to interpret it in any way you'd like (i.e. physically, spiritually, emotionally, ironically). But if someone were to ask you the simple question, "Where is God?", how would you answer?

I assume you refer to prudence in the human sense, and not in the Christian sense of prudence, which is considered a great moral virtue. Proverbs 2:11-15 “prudence will watch over you; and understanding will guard you. It will save you from the way of evil, from those who speak perversely...

Thanks! I'll do my best. :) And thanks for adding to the dialogue. I very much appreciate it. Cheers!

Interesting. I'm curious how they come to a non-moral definition of evil, if evil (and good, by extension) are the two ends on a spectrum of morality. In my mind, that seems akin to referring to left and right as non-directional qualities. I've always felt that evil and good were relative. But I...

    Seeking a Faith

That is an incredible essay. Thank you so much for sending it to me. Some portions of the second part where you discuss the "proleptic urge" elucidate perfectly my own much cruder version of a theory regarding the nature of God as harmony. Harmony, as I see it, is a neutral concept, and...

    Morality, Science, and Religion

I suspect that posting the question in this particular forum will garner much the same answer as yours. I'd be curious to know what the less liberal Christians would have to say on the subject. Perhaps I should repost the question elsewhere and compare notes. Thanks for the quick response.

    Morality, Science, and Religion

So as some of you know, I've been on a spiritual journey, trying to find the faith that works best for me. Now this is the question that I've pondered from time to time. I've formulated my own answers, but I'm curious as to what everybody else thinks. In the battle between atheism and theism...

    Epic Battles

Considering Condy's well-documented ambition to be the commissioner of the NFL, I would have to agree.

    Epic Battles

Mine too. But it would be epic. On the other hand, the way they were both trained, the fight might be over in three seconds, regardless of the victor.

Definitely. The one belief that I will always cherish is that it is a virtue to question your beliefs. Blind faith is not my cup of tea. Thanks so much for your assistance on this journey.

Tube Socks Dude (or TSD for short), thank you greatly for your responses. It's certainly illuminating, and I really enjoy the idea of a personal Bible. The more I read, the more I'm beginning to believe that there is no one religion (which I'm sure many of you believe, but many others would take...

Huo Yuan Jia versus Bruce Lee would be fascinating(for all those martial arts geeks out there, this is like the equivalent of pitting the '95-96 Chicago Bulls against the '58-59 Celtics)

Forgive my ignorance, but what exactly is Unitarian Universalist? And how does it differ from other faiths? Thanks for sharing your experience, btw. I appreciate it very much.

    Seeking a Faith

Wow. Thanks to everybody for all the quick replies. This discussion is helping a lot with creating a more positive view towards Christianity (as, to be honest, midway through the Old Testament, my view of the Abrahamic God was that he was equal parts love and equal parts scary). @Izzy, I've...

    Seeking a Faith

Dean, Thanks for the quick reply, and I really like your view that God is inclusive beyond religions other than Christianity (ah! I got it right this time). I'm not sure who God is yet, and where to find him, but I'm hoping, like you do, that when I do, he'll embrace me regardless of the faith...
