  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

    Rites in the Universal chruch

The Orthodox scholars you refer to would be in agreement with the Catholic position, simply juxtaposed from their perspective. Please re-read your source, the Saint states: "Wherefore others said that even those who are cut off from the Church can confer Orders and the other sacraments...

PilgrimToChrist, An episcopate that is in schism cannot perform valid ordinations. The Catholic Church does not pursue causes for canonization from a Church in Schism. The Church referred to in which you reply here was the Catholic Church. What is rejection of unity with the Catholic...

Would you expect CAF to remove Joe's name from his posts? I understand they are spotty with who they label as banned. Only in so far as I was privy to the circumstances surrounding Joe's dismissal and the subsequent banning of the majority of the Eastern Catholic community on the forum there...

You missed the point, which was not that the see had to be founded by an actual Apostle per se'. I found that assumption quite whimsical. And you say that I do not understand. The point was that the apostolic lineage of the see was in question to begin with even before the first schism. You do...

I am rather sure that Colin uses the term "schism" as shown from your quote. I do not recall using the term "schismatic" to label anyone but even if I did, I already assured you I needn't do so and if you wish to drop that term from discussions - I will. Although Colin certainly has no qualms...

Yes, that is what the quote says. I simply ended it prior to the canon.

    Rites in the Universal chruch

Re-read my post. Your assumption that I was claiming to be Eastern Catholic because of a pointed question posed is incorrectly derived. Asking a direct question is making no such claim. You are misleading yourself. I merely asked about Eastern Catholics as I appeared to be in an Eastern Orthodox...

    Rites in the Universal chruch

Many members of the Catholic Churches are torn between Rome and the schisms of the East through constant polemical prostelyzations. Some really do put themselves through a ringer trying to justify less than 5% of the body of the Catholic Church worldwide when really they don't need to as these...

I said no such thing. I said it was plagiarized, not to mean I am the plagiarist. Perhaps you should read the rules here so that you may understand. Since I happen to be familiar with the personel there, would you happen to go by the name of Joe Monahan or, could you perhaps direct me to...

You must have imagined that assumption. And you are kidding yourself about being polite.

With permission; The guidelines for receiving Communion, which are issued by the U.S. bishops and published in many missalettes, explain, “We welcome our fellow Christians to this celebration of the Eucharist as our brothers and sisters. We pray that our common baptism and the action...

    Rites in the Universal chruch

"Uniate" as referring to the Eastern Catholic Churches was a common term used by the Church herself. It is found throughout her documents on this matter prior to Vat II. It is not disrespectful when used as an adjective to raise awareness of the Eastern Churches in union with Rome unless used as...

    Rites in the Universal chruch

Prior to 1054 there were instances of major disobedience and heresy that nullified valid succession which has carried on presupposing valid succession for centuries. Keep in mind that schism is disobedience. The only place apostolic succession remains untainted is under the Pontificate. The...

    Rites in the Universal chruch

It should be noted that Roman Catholic scholars do not believe that Constantinople, Alexandria nor Jerusalem have apostolic succession and there are problems with Antioch’s claims as well. It is estimated that any rite in the Church, other than the Roman rite, comprises less than 5% of...
