  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

To major in English, or not to major in English. That is the question!

I'm a little confused, perhaps because of differences in our colleges. If you're getting a BA and you want to be an educator, why isn't education your major? Do you really not have any major at all? You say the advisor initially suggested a general BA with no major for entrance into the...

    challenge ahead of me..

I don't have all the answers, so I figured I would tell you what I do instead. ;) I'm a graphic and Web designer for the missions department of a small denomination. I work on a HUGE variety of projects - our Web site, lots of brochures, posters, faith commitment and prayer cards, e-newsletters...

    peace corps

Peace Corps can be a great service and I do encourage believers to do it. Along with helping the local people, your example of Christian service could win other Peace Corps volunteers to Christ. However, the Peace Corps do require you to sign an agreement saying you won't proselytize, making it...

    peace corps

Terri, I've never served with the Peace Corps, although I have seriously considered it. Instead, I've done Christian missions work, and I want to spend at least 2 years overseas soon. Have you thought about Christian missions vs the Peace Corps? I'm not saying you shouldn't do PC, just...

    How to preach to Muslims

Tip #1 - learn Arabic, Farsi, Urdu, Turkish, or other language appropriate for the people (that should pretty much keep you busy for two years!) Tip #2 - read a lot. Church Planting in Muslims Cities, Muslim Evangelism: Contemporary Approaches to Contextualization, and Encountering the World of...

What nations have not yet heard the Gospel?

I'm glad someone else already addressed this! Matt 24:14 doesn't mean that the end will come when there are some believers within every political nation. If that's what the verse meant, it's likely the end already would have come. Instead, as sinfulman explained, "nations" is better translated...

    Changing Majors

I started college as an electrical engineering student, and nearly completed the program. Because of dexterity issues that made the program physically painful, I switched to the English program and graduated with a BA in English and a specialty in technical writing. My transcript is very...

    Has anyone taken anthropology?

Blackguard, I've never seen "The Goddess and the Computer", but I may have to watch it. Your description of it reminded me of watching "The Gods must be crazy" in some college class. "The Goddess and the Computer" sounds like a fascinating documentary.

    Has anyone taken anthropology?

Intro to cutural anthropology was one of my favorite classes in college. I like learning about other cultures, and I don't find different beliefs disrupt my own faith. Courses in cultural anthropology are one thing I've consistently seem reccomended for wannabe missionaries, since it helps...

New Evangelism site seeking developers and funds

I'm all for you developing a site from scratch if there isn't something available that meets your needs, but I'm too practical to advocate reinventing the wheel. God certainly wants you to use your Web development skills, but he gave you common sense too. :)

    Raising funds. Question.

What is it that you plan to do once you're in Spain? How long will you be staying in Spain? Do you have a job setup in Spain, or will you need ongoing financial support? Without understanding what it is you're going to do in Spain, I'm not sure how to advise you on raising funds. How much money...

New Evangelism site seeking developers and funds

Instead of developing your own Web software system that can manage the content and let people rate, comment, and search the articles, why don't you use an existing Web content management system? There are a number of free, open source CMSs that can do what you need, but I'd suggest Joomla...

If you were to write an Evangelcism book, what chapters would it have?

One of my favorite books on evangelism is The Master's Plan of Evangelism by Robert Coleman. What I love about the book is the emphasis on winning a few, then training them to win others. It traces the way Jesus selected and discipled the disciples, then trained them to reach and train others...

Troubled as to where God wants me to go.

Freecube, I can't answer your question about where the greatest need in Latin American is, since I just don't know. But I wanted to write about a couple other matters. For starters, it's awesome that you've learned Spanish so easily. Have you ever tried to learn another language? I ask because...

    How Much?

It depends on how long you want to go, where you want to go, what kind of ministry you'll do, what you lodging will be, and who you go with. Flights to India cost a lot more than flights to Peru, for instance. All of my trips have been through the Assemblies of God. It was about $400 for a week...
