  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

    Traditional Satanism

:sigh: Unfortunately, I can't answer that question; I'm not a Satanist. According to this page, the name "Set" evolved into "Set-an" and then "Satan". However, I'm not sure of the reliability of this source. ;) As to how Satan could be based on any number of gods, well, I suppose that's...

    Traditional Satanism

How do you know this? Religion is so tangled that hardly anything is for sure. I did a bit of research on Satanism and it seems that the Judeo-Christian Satan most likely is based on the Egyptian god Set. That may be true, but it doesn't give anyone the license to accuse all Satanists of an...

    Traditional Satanism

I believe she explained that "Satan" is a deity associated with ancient Egypt (sometimes Sumeria) and is unrelated to Christianity. By the way, this is all very interesting - I've never heard of Satanism being anything more than worship of the Christian devil. My horizons are expanding. ;)

    Opinions on design layouts

Oh dear. ;) And you're probably right about the colours. Heh. Oh, well, you're forgiven, then. And the attachment you showed me looks much better. Good luck on the guest thing.

    Opinions on design layouts

Trans Am: I would like this one the best if there weren't a box in the picture - sort of faded - that just stops. It should not be there, or if it must be, it needs to have a purpose. Also, the username/password boxes are over the picture, and that bothers me because you have to highlight the...

    Chronicles of Narnia

And to you. ^_^ I read the Screwtape Letters as well, and thought it was good at the time, but it was a few years ago so I can hardly remember specifics.

    Chronicles of Narnia

Well no, not bad necessarily, but he dances awfully close to saying knowledge of the true god is not exclusive to Christianity. Er. Am I being clear? Well, I don't think His Dark Materials was so much atheistic (<-- correct spelling) as anti-religion (specifically anti-Catholicism). It was a...

    Chronicles of Narnia

Glad to hear you don't dislike Harry (not that I would've hated you terribly if you did... ). And yes, Lewis is great for Christian stuff, but remember: "If you never read anything you disagree with, what will you ever learn?" However, I know Harry Potter isn't something you can get...

    Chronicles of Narnia

^_^ I respect your opinion here, but Lewis has river gods and tree spirits and suchlike in Narnia as good folk, but surely you'd think someone who believed in/talked to these beings as off their nut and/or influenced by Satan. Lewis, especially in his Space Trilogy, draws a very fine line...

    Theistic evolution and Origional Sin

I assume you believe all men have a soul, so are all men living today descended from Adam and Eve? Or did god imbue some other female hominid with a soul so that Cain might have a wife? ^_^

I couldn't have said it more eloquently, but I must add that I get a secret pleasure out of watching the bishies as well.

LotR Fans Unite! (and other works by Tolkien)

If you haven't read the Silmarillion, I suggest you read it. I personally prefer it over LoTR (which is saying something).

    Chronicles of Narnia

I've thought about it, and I'm willing to concede that it very well _could_ exist, but it's not necessarily so (for the same reason that Zeus and Odin and Glorfindel and Voldemort _might_ exist, but I don't really believe it). Just wanting to believe in Narnia doesn't mean I'll go there, much as...

    Chronicles of Narnia

I've always been a fan of Lewis' work. I loved Narnia (used to believe it actually existed) and I recently read his Space Trilogy, which, as somebody mentioned, was rather strange. I liked Out of the Silent Planet very much, Perelandra slightly less so, and I didn't like That Hideous Strength at...
