  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

    Mary Not In Earliest Creeds

However these quotes are not acceptable. This gives power to Mary that belongs to God. Mary cannot protect us or provide mercy to us. She has passed on. How can I know she can here "my supplications" or do anything about them? "deliver us from danger" sounds like "Deliver us from evil" to...

    Mary Not In Earliest Creeds

Ok ... I don't mind having a little fun. You seem to say this as a claim like you have some Ace up your sleeve. Well ... I'm just foolish enough to fall into this trap I suppose. :) Before I say anything, I beleive any "doctrine" ... something that the church puts forth as either escential...

    Mary Not In Earliest Creeds

Both of these quotes seem to be right in line with the Bible I read today. I have no issue with them. If this was all that was said about Mary, then we could be unified in our belief about who she is, what purpose she served ... and even the OT reference to her from the fall of Eve.

    Mary Not In Earliest Creeds

I think the point that is being made, and that it is a valid one, is that the importance that is given to Mary today is far and above what was intended or given when Christ walked the earth. It is amazing to see, even in the development of the RCC doctrine, how mary goes from the "nameless...

    Protestants and Praying to Saints

In the sense that some are trying to "accept" without understanding. In my view (understanding you don't agree with my view) that false doctrine should not be tollerated. How is this false? Maybe I should put it another way. "Thou shalt have no other gods before me.". Jesus thought it was...

The Purpose Driven Life: Seeker-Friendly New Age Philosophy or Christian Philosophy?

Hey Zak ... I agree with your assessment of RW's book PDL. I was given a copy by a freind and read only half of it. Unfortunately people are not as impressed with your view, or your stand, that I take with you on this book and RW's example and preaching from his own pulpit. We as...

What do you think of the megachurch movement?

I think we should be skeptical of all teaching until it measures up to some way with the Gospel. Here is an article I found that does this: http://christianunplugged.com/proctor_essay.htm

    Protestants and Praying to Saints

I'm surprised that some people are trying to make peace with this "doctrine", even if they don't agree. It is a FALSE DOCTRINE and not of God to try to communicate with those who passed on. There is only one God. And our God is a jealous God. Yet, some have made little gods of these saints...

"that they MAY BE ONE, that the world may believe"

DOM - Just don't go down this road again. It's church Dogma, not from the Bible nor can you absolutely substantiant the succession from Peter to now. Even if you could substantiate that, there were many churches that were started by Paul and other apostles. Not everything can be traced back...

you NEED the Real BODY, BLOOD, SOUL, AND DIVINITY of Christ

The posturing of the RCC on this issue is just so profoundly unbiblical ... and still yet we continue on like there is actually some validity to this. It's not my stance on "sola scripture" that you claim I have adopted that finds this so utterly ridiculous, it's ANTI-scripture. We can make up...

"that they MAY BE ONE, that the world may believe"

DOM, you have GOT to me kidding me ... a Catholic who prays in tongues!?!?! Isn't that an oxymoron????? You are truly caught in a unque place for sure. You are damned by people like me who see heresy in the RCC, you are damned by those who think speaking in tongues is of the devil. There is no...

Sounds like the Emperor's new clothes to me.

"that they MAY BE ONE, that the world may believe"

We forget that when the "church" that we talk about in the Bible is all believers in Jesus. Church is not a building nor something you go to a building to do. Church are all those who believe. Chruch needs to be more of who we are and less of where we go. IMO :)

you NEED the Real BODY, BLOOD, SOUL, AND DIVINITY of Christ

It is true DOF (my abbreviation for you) :) ... something needs to happen. However, I think we will be surprised WHAT that needs to be. If you are thinking that *I* might convert back to an RCC belief (I was in the RCC in my youth) that is not about to happen. However, I don't expect you to...

you NEED the Real BODY, BLOOD, SOUL, AND DIVINITY of Christ

You quoted one of my post favorite scriptures there. Such a heart Jesus has for us to pray such a personal prayer for us. Yes, I believe that God wants us to be "one" ... however, I have many years of experience in the RCC and I found an overwhelmingly huge issue with their doctrine. Not my...
