  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Pray for AA Halls like this

to OP: How about just going to a different AA meeting? some of them are good, some not so good. I have stopped going to my local group due to the strange atmosphere there. AA is good for sure, but sometimes a change of scenery is the right option.

    Did Jesus pre-exist his birth?

I am sure Jesus has always existed, yet He was only seen by humans as a man, in the period of the Gospels.

oh well, I thought I'd give it a try;)

Exodus 16:18 - proof of the need for Socialism?

this morning's reading had me stumble upon this little gem, and gives me cause for hope that God actually wants Socialism, or a form of it at least. what do you all think? Exodus 16: 16-18: This is what the LORD has commanded: ‘Each one is to gather as much as he needs. Take an...

    what am i poltically?

I agree, yes, because if that were the case then surely it would make sense to have everyone on welfare. (not) anyway, I think Henry Ford had the right idea: ie: pay the workers enough so they can afford to buy things.

    Atheists and the Bible

I agree, no point arguing with an atheist over the existence v. non-existence issue. they will never agree, and it's only a matter of point scoring. it's like trying to convert a Republican to Communism or vice-versa! (well, that may perhaps be possible, but not very likely)

Abraham to sacrfice his son - symbolic of Jesus?

here is another odd tale from last night's reading: I think 2 of Abraham's daughters sleep with him to make themselves pregnant. what is this all about, in either orthodox or unorthodox theology? thanks

How essential is Ellen White to SDA?

Hi, I don't know a great deal about Adventism but I did find a copy of 'The Desire of Ages' in an old second-hand bookstore about 1 year ago. I read it and was amazed! so I"m sure whatever she says, must be cherished:)

1 year sober thanks to the Bible!

this time I am just reading it in order, page by page. I've got up to Exodus now.

    Gnostic view of the afterlife

and there seems to be quite a lot of mention of 'regeneration'. a fairly pagan sounding idea, one which I actually ascribe to. In that, when we die, our souls are regenerated in a divine pool of existence, mixed up with the other ones and re-formed into a new life.

Abraham to sacrfice his son - symbolic of Jesus?

just been reading Genesis, and the part where Abraham is about to sacrifice his son has come to mind. so he was about to offer his son to God, when he was given the ram instead, as a test. Is this meant to be symbolic of Jesus being sacrificed later in the NT?

1 year sober thanks to the Bible!

God certainly works in mysterious ways, because IMO, it seems for sure that I turned to Him through needing to be saved from alchoholism! so why did I become a drinker in the first place? anyway, I've just started on the reading the Bible again (cover to cover) - for the first time since my...

    what am i poltically?

I guess there are some similarities for sure, but out here there isn't really a middle class. So that tends to make it hard for people to start small businesses. Plenty of top of the range cars around though, a bit like being in Cheshire or Chelsea!

1 year sober thanks to the Bible!

I just have to keep on going now. I keep reading religious and spiritual texts of any kind, and that definitely helps. anyway, for Munski, I don't really go to AA a great deal but found it helped in the early days. for me, I find it easier to deal with it semi-alone , ie: with God as well but...

1 year sober thanks to the Bible!

:)thanks for the replies.. hang in there Munski, it took me 3 attempts to finally kick it (not including numerous mini-attempts) first time I made it 2 months, then 5 months before relapse. Now I'm 13 months sober and it feels good, although of course at times the cravings do still come.
