I am a Christian. What that means to me is that, in humility and thankfulness, I have committed to repenting of my life in slavery to selfish ambition as part of this world. I have put my faith in Jesus Christ to be Lord and Savior of my life - the only faith acceptable to God, and of which baptism represents (Romans 6; Colossians 2:11-12; Colossians 3:1-14; Ephesians 4:17-32; Ephesians 5:1-17).
By faith in Christ, I daily crucify, renounce, put to death, put off, die to myself to slavery of my fleshly nature, and live my life in obedience to Jesus Christ - to listen to and follow Him; to be His disciple - just as Lord Jesus commands of all those who claim to believe in Him.
This is a daily dedication or sanctifying of myself to God that I am responsible to do as a faithful follower of Lord Jesus.
Romans 12:1-2 (WEB)
12 Therefore I urge you, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service. 2 Don’t be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what is the good, well-pleasing, and perfect will of God.
I know that while still living in this body, my faith will continually be tested and refined. I know I must no longer let any sin master me, for I have only one Master and Lord - Christ Jesus.
Even so, if I should sin in weakness or naivety, I know my Lord will not cast me away. If I am sorry for sinning against my Lord and repent, then Christ Jesus is faithful to forgive me.
By this faith, I am assured by the Gospel that I am justified and gain access to God's saving grace because of the Gospel (Romans 5:1-2).
By this faith commitment to Christ, I received the Spirit of Christ to empower my faith to be victorious over sin, and to live out the remainder of my life radiating the Love of God in thought, word and action, within whatever circumstances I find myself in, and with the talents I possess and develop until the end.
Therefore, God works His will out in my life as I am faithful to live by His Spirit who indwells me - to be holy as God is holy.
Galatians 6:7-10 (WEB) To the Church in Galatia
7 Don’t be deceived. God is not mocked, for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. 8 For he who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption. But he who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life. 9 Let us not be weary in doing good, for we will reap in due season if we don’t give up. 10 So then, as we have opportunity, let us do what is good toward all men, and especially toward those who are of the household of the faith.
1 Peter 1:13-16 (WEB) 13 Therefore prepare your minds for action. Be sober, and set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ— 14 as children of obedience, not conforming yourselves according to your former lusts as in your ignorance, 15 but just as he who called you is holy, you yourselves also be holy in all of your behavior; 16 because it is written, “You shall be holy; for I am holy.” [Leviticus 11:44-45]
This is sanctification, the New Life, and is Salvation - being set free from bondage to sin to follow Christ by a continued faith in Lord Jesus. This is the Gospel Faith by which we receive eternal life.
Romans 6:19-22 (WEB) 19 for as you presented your members as servants to uncleanness and to wickedness upon wickedness, even so now present your members as servants to righteousness for sanctification. 20 For when you were servants of sin, you were free from righteousness. 21 What fruit then did you have at that time in the things of which you are now ashamed? For the end of those things is death. 22 But now, being made free from sin and having become servants of God, you have your fruit of sanctification and the result of eternal life.
Blessings to all of you in Christ Jesus our Lord
