  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

    Cacti

I seem to be becoming a cactus enthusiast! I went to the garden centre the other week and came home with a few. They're so collectable and intriguing! I've got one with a purple head that looks like something from outer space, and another that's just your average straight up and down. Does...

    Oh my gosh! Nakedness!

There was a stir caused here a few weeks ago when a TV show demonstrating an artist painting (a picture of ;)) a naked woman was aired around lunchtime. Parents were turning on the TV and unintentionally exposing their young children to the the unwrapped delights of the female body. Of course...

    Mass settings

Hello! I've not posted very much/for a while on here, but I hope to rectify that! I was just wondering which Mass settings you use at your churches. There seem to be a great many. One of the churches where I play the organ uses the New English Mass by Patrick Appleford, which I'm not terribly...

    Church politics etc

Thanks again for your replies. I had a lovely day yesterday with members of the FiF parish. I guess these things shouldn't get in the way, but I'm never sure how it's all perceived by others. If only the church could play nicely!

    Church politics etc

Thanks for your replies and welcomes. :) I'll continue attending this church! I wasn't saying that Forward in Faith itself was "evangelical" - I was meaning that the members of this church are a little obsessed with FiF. It's is a staunchly anglo-catholic parish. This is by no means my local...

    Church politics etc

I would tend to identify myself as anglo-catholic, and my favourite church is firmly routed in this tradition. However, this church is also rather evangelical about its affiliation to Forward in Faith, and makes a big deal of its disliking for female clergy. Hence, by going to this church, am I...

Any One Here Lost a Parent?

I lost my mum in April 2006. She had been diagnosed with cancer in September 2005. I was 14, and she was 51. I'm an only child, and so my relationship with my parents was quite "intense". To protect me, I wasn't told what was wrong with my mum. Only on the evening of the day she died, my dad...

Communion Rules in the English Church

I think there is a great deal of variation between different parishes in the Church of England. The congregation at my Anglo-Catholic church in Leeds are told: "Anyone in good standing with any trinitarian church is welcome to receive Holy Communion at the altar. If receiving Holy Communion is...

What do you think of Anglo-Papalism?

Do you think that it could come down to patriarchy amongst some individuals? Maintenance of the Catholic doctrines is obviously important, and only a desire to keep everything "within the nation" and without outside help from Rome could, I think, be what prevents certain Anglo-Catholics from...

    Why are you Anglican?

I suppose I'm an Anglican partly because it's the Church of England is the one people "default" to in England. However, now that I'm in a position to think freely, I would still opt to be part of Anglo-Catholicism. As DarkNLovely has said, the church shows a beautiful and inspiring...

    Hello!

Hello! I'm Matthew. I'm an Anglican from near York, England. My faith lies within the Catholic tradition of the Church of England, though I believe that the recent and less recent controversy over the ordination of women detracts from the wider mission of the church. I am an organist, and play...
