  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

So....question about no religion in school.

Sorry, but nice poems don't really provide any significant information relevant to our discussion here.

So....question about no religion in school.

This is an absurd assertion. Provide evidence for this claim to back it up, otherwise it is just unjustified ramblings. All evidence we have points to the fact that humans wrote the bible, with no divine help, meaning that humans have thought of whatever system you are referencing.

    Greetings from an atheist

Hey and thanks. I have read the Chronicles of Narnia, probably at least 10-15 years ago. I know briefly of his apologetics career, but nothing too in depth.

So....question about no religion in school.

Your two sentences have nothing to do with each other. What part of the critical thinking process involves selfishness? Your conclusion about the stock market is potentially valid, but the point remains that coming do that conclusion via critical thinking and reason is better than divine...

So....question about no religion in school.

Critical thinking is not a magic solution that will always lead to the correct answer. In fact, two people can critical examine something and come to different conclusions. However, this does not mean that it is less useful or consistent as any of the aforementioned alternatives. Love is not...

    Greetings from an atheist

Hi, and thanks for the welcome. My philosophy of life is still developing, and I would assume that it will be continuously changing, as I get older and experience more of life. I don't have too much of a formal philosophy, but I'll give it my best shot. I believe that science, skepticism...

So....question about no religion in school.

Again, I want to reiterate that I am not proposing pure guessing as the opposite of critical thinking. It's merely one alternative way. If you have to decide whether to buy stock in a company for example, you can flip a coin, you can pray to god, you could go with your "gut instinct", you could...

So....question about no religion in school.

What's this? A Christian who properly understands the practical necessity of separation of church and state? Go you!

So....question about no religion in school.

This is an assertion until you can back it up with evidence. Critical thinking doesn't have the goal of "finding flaws". It has no motive. It is merely a tool, a vehicle for human minds to consistently arrive at truth, one that is demonstrably more effective and consistent than any alternative...

    Greetings from an atheist

I wouldn't say always. If you could demonstrate that it was the infallible word of god, and evidence was presented to justify this, I would no longer reject it. That's how science and skepticism work, we don't start with prior beliefs and force the world to fit them, we examine the actual...
