  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Where does the Book of Mormon contradict the Bible

This thread was originally about differences between the Bible and the BOM. Inevitably, we we have discussed doctrine derived from those books. However, I for one have been talking strictly about the writings and the doctrines. I have also questioned the motives and validity of Joseph Smith's...

    Sundry Discussions

I agree with what was said by A New Dawn: mormonism may be a cult, but that doesn't mean that individual mormons are not Christian. My opinions are about the religion and its founder. But back to JS's thoughts about the church. The church is a fellowship of believers. It is 100% inclusive. I...

    Sundry Discussions

Swart, I think quoting your message would just take us in circles. Also, I'm not going to be visiting here frequently for a while, so I just want to give some final thoughts. Throughout church history, many people have contributed to orthodoxy. And of course, I agree with some and disagree...

Does God desire everyone to be saved?

I'm not sure how popular my opinion will be, but this is what I believe. The Triune God (Elohim, three divine person) created other moral beings to bless us with their love. God desires our happiness without any personal interest. We are designed in such a way that we are truly happy only when...

Does God desire everyone to be saved?

This is a very good question! (The one quoted) God desires that everyone would be saved from their sins. "She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins." (Matthew 1:21). In order to be saved from your sins, you must actually stop...

Where does the Book of Mormon contradict the Bible

This is what you wrote earlier: "Each of us individually are taught to receive personal revelation and guidance from the Holy Ghost without the aid of man made commentaries trying to guide us in what to believe." I don't take that as praise for manmade commentaries. But let me restate my...

Where does the Book of Mormon contradict the Bible

That's my whole point. All revelation is personal revelation. Yet many men have believed that what they received is absolute truth. Some even write books, lead reformations, and start churches. Sadly, the LDS church states that it is the only church, and that all other Christian churches are not...

Where does the Book of Mormon contradict the Bible

This is a response to my post about the Triune nature of God. Please state any disagreements you have with my understanding. That way we can actually talk about concrete ideas. Thanks. Scott

Where does the Book of Mormon contradict the Bible

I have two problems with the teaching that Adam and Eve couldn't (or wouldn't) reproduce without sinning. First, as has already been pointed out, God never gives a commandment that cannot be obeyed. God commanded Adam and Even to reproduce, therefore they were capable of reproduction. They...

Where does the Book of Mormon contradict the Bible

You have greatly misunderstood the dichotomy of good and evil. First of all, has God ever known evil experiencially? No. That is why He is perfectly holy. However, he knows what evil is, in two ways. Before the Triune God created any other moral being, the three divine persons could imagine...

Where does the Book of Mormon contradict the Bible

You have modern prophets and apostles, yet you look down on manmade commentaries? I don't mean to defend any of these Christians' doctrines, but what makes you so sure Luther, Wesley or Calvin weren't receiving personal revelation and guidance from the Holy Spirit? Why then doesn't the LDS...

Where does the Book of Mormon contradict the Bible

When talking about the Triune God, we have to think about it in two ways. First, we must talk about three divine persons BEFORE the creation. As such, I don't think words like Father, Son and Holy Spirit are completely literal (and I'll explain why in a second). What we do know is that the three...

Where does the Book of Mormon contradict the Bible

As a Christian, I want to know what the Bible says. I want to continue learning as much as I can. As a Lutheran, I want to know what Martin Luther actually thought and decide in light of Scriptures if I actually agree with everything he said. It seems to me you're making excuses for laziness...

Where does the Book of Mormon contradict the Bible

I think the two verses to which you replied (John 16:7 and John 7:39) clearly show the chronology of the Son's and the Spirit's interaction with humanity. Jesus' atonement had to occur out of necessity before the Holy Spirit could come at Pentecost and do his sanctifying work. Yes, of course...
