  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Lost my lifebelt and sinking fast

So to clarify, you think that I should go to a doctor and ask him if I can try some diffrerent drugs as the Effexor didn't do me much good. As the depression has been going on in various intensities for the last 3-4 years and I have dealt insofar as is possible with all the life issues that were...

    Missing College...Please Help!!!

Hey Discogirl. To an extent I can understand. For me college was a major let-down. I was expecting it to cool: friends, freedom, lots to do, etc. but I found like you I made few friends, felt isolated and spent far to much time on my own watching TV. When I consider the harsh reality of the...

Lost my lifebelt and sinking fast

I also try really hard to think positively and throw myself into things and keep all semblance of a normal life (which is pretty hard when often I feel like I just want to go to sleep and not wake up). No-one understands when they find out I am depressed. After all I am doing well at school...

Lost my lifebelt and sinking fast

Hi deamiter. I have tried Efflexor and Prozac. None of them did me any good whatsoever and if anything numbed my emotions even more and had some pretty nasty side-effects. I have also had some therapy, but did not find this especially helpful as I know what my main negative thoughts are and have...

Lost my lifebelt and sinking fast

What is worse is that just when I thought I was slowly recovering having had two years of my life blighted by depression and made miserable, I now find that all I need is a slight setback and I plunge right back into depression. The year in which I was free of the worst of depression things were...

Lost my lifebelt and sinking fast

Over the last few weeks I have really regressed and plunged into depression again. While not quite as serious as the depression I had when I was 18 which lasted a year, it is still pretty bad and I have often asked myself what is the point of living over the last few weeks. I have always been...

    Advice about college?

I am a 3rd year veteran and learnt what I have learnt the hard way. I would give anything to go back to my 1st year and start all over again! Here are my top tips: WORK: Start early and stay ahead. The moment you fall behind it is hard to catch up. Go to all your classes and lectures and...

    Tired, irritable and unmotivated

Some sort of meditation sounds a good idea and don't worry I am not going to suddenly turn into a Buddha! But I think you may be right in saying it may be a less sever bout of depression, as aside from the gloomy mood it is like the last one. I really need this bout to pass pretty soon as I...

    Can't really imagine wanting children

Maybe it is because I am young but I cannot really imagine myself wanting children at any stage. I like the idea of marriage and having a soul mate who loves you and understands you but I can't help feeling that children get in the way of that. Most of the families I have seen and mine...

    Rotten personality

I try very hard to be a good person and worship God and pray. I also try and lead a Christian life. But despite this at the core I am still extremely selfish, self-centred and cold. When I am nice to people it is just an act-I am doing it because it is the right thing or because I like the good...

    Shyness

Hi everyone. Thanks for all the inspiring replies. Sorry I haven't been able to reply till now. A few people asked me how I was doing with my shyness. Well. I am certainly understanding my particular blend of shyness a lot more than I used to. Specifically I find that in situations I am...

    Tired, irritable and unmotivated

Not sure whether this is the right location for my thread but here goes. Over the past few months I have become increasingly irritable and exhausted. I have lost a lot of enthusiasm for many of my activities and my work, and feel apathetic and fed up. I don't think it is depression as I have...

    Dream mate

Well, I don't intend to get married until 30 as I want to be financially independent so I can send my kids to good schools, take my family on good holidays and generally give them the finer things in life. But my dream mate would be: 1) A serious Christian who lives life according to God's...
