  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

    Silly? question regarding transubstantiation...

Well, it is an interesting theory, albeit one that does not accord particularly well with the comments on the Eucharist made in the 100s. Unfortunately, it doesn't really answer my question, one that has confused me for years. Why does the command to do a particular thing in remembrance of the...

How and how often do you pray the rosary?

My drive to work is approximately 20 minutes--just the right amount of time to pray the rosary, and just the right way to start the day. God bless, Sam

    Silly? question regarding transubstantiation...

I have to confess, this is an issue that has always flummoxed me, even when I was still Protestant and didn't believe in the real presence of Christ in the Eucharist. Perhaps you can help me to understand. Why would the command to do something "in remembrance of me" require a symbolic...

    Chik-fil-A

Chik-fil-A is one of the *very* few things that I miss about living in the South! (boiled peanuts being also among those things that I miss, but I digress...)

    Father-Abbot Francis Kline is dead.

I heard a couple of concerts at Mepkin Abbey for which he played the organ--he was a truly gifted musician, who put his rematkable talents to the highest use.

    Anybody been here?

Next time, keep heading down I-26 to Charleston, all the way out to Sullivan's Island. Stella Maris Church on Sullivan's Island does frequent Traditional Latin Masses, and the NO masses are all extremely reverently done. Check it out! Just make sure to get there early, as it is a smaller...

How often do you pray the Rosary?

My drive into work is just about 20 minutes, just what it takes me to pray the Rosary. So, I pray it on the way into work Monday through Friday mornings. What a delightful way to start the work day!

Woot! There's still hope for the American Church Left!

I found this address by Bishop Roche, the Chairman of ICEL, to be most interesting and, apparently, most of the American bishops found it to be most persuasive. http://www.usccb.org/bishops/rocheaddress2006.shtml Deo gratias! Sam

    I'm still Catholic

Both of the catechumens with whom I'm working at our church are still very much on track and becoming even more enthused. Thanks be to God! Dominus vobiscum, Sam

Converting from Protestant to Catholic. Why?

I came to the Church after experimenting with different flavors of Protestantism, the latest one being the Episcopal church. As a historian, I was drawn to the Episcopal church because it was more rooted in common experience through the ages than any other Protestant denomination, particularly...

[OPEN] What are you listening to?

Just now (while at work) its Thomas Tallis' Spem in Alium ("Spem in alium nunquam habui praeter in te"-I have never founded my hope upon other than thee). Lovely stuff!

    Cary Grant

I've often had a tough time deciding who I wanted to be when I grow up...Cary Grant or Humphrey Bogart. Choices, choices....

Have you attended an Eastern Catholic Divine Liturgy?

Yep...I attended Divine Liturgy at a Ukrainian Catholic Church near here...perhaps the most beautiful thing that I have ever experienced. God bless, Sam

    What lead you to Catholicism?

In a word, history. The Catholic Church is the only one that can verifiably trace itself all the way back to Our Lord, through the laying-on of hands and the maintenance of the Faith.
