  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Calvinists still condemn contraceptives as John Calvin

Yes it is really funny!!!! You bought a hard cover book that is censored!!! That is funny. Wow Baker Books - omit the passage and also put a footnote saying there is no comment!! Here, try these. The second one is Calvin College so you should be comfortable with that. . (Calvin, Genesis...

    Calvinist view of wealth

Agreed. Except perhaps the part about a Christian becoming wealthy not by mistake.

Calvinists still condemn contraceptives as John Calvin

The sin of Onan is the intentional spilling of seed. John Calvin puts it like this: Commentary on Genesis 38 Verse 10. And the thing which he did displeased the LORD . Less neatly the Jews speak about this matter. I will contend myself with briefly mentioning this, as far as the sense of...

    Works Required to Prove Faith

How much sin can be committed or how much lack of good deeds can occur before God says that the person does not have a genuine saving faith? Suppose a married man is on fire for the Lord. He spends much of his time spreading the gospel, serving the poor, and generally being a good Christian...

    Works Required to Prove Faith

To name a few: feed the hungry; give drink to the thirsty; clothe the naked; harbour the harbourless; visit the sick; ransom the captive; bury the dead; instruct the ignorant; counsel the doubtful; admonish sinners; bear wrongs patiently; forgive offences willingly; comfort the afflicted; and...

    Works Required to Prove Faith

Your question doesn't strengthen your position at all. Why should I know precisely how much work is required for salvation? God is the judge. We live our lives and God judges when we die. We know what it is about and how it works. Your question can be turned around without sarcasm. What...

    Works Required to Prove Faith

No. Can you tell me specifically "how much" faith is necessary for salvation? Can you tell me "which works" demonstrate faith? Works are peanuts. Faith is peanut butter. Salvation is a peanut butter sandwich.

    Works Required to Prove Faith

Works are essential to true faith/belief. As such, works are essential to eternal salvation.

Thanks for your answer. I guess I couldn't really have expected much different of an answer. You are baptist I see, maybe I would get something different from a Christian Reformed.

    Baptist Mission to South America

Thanks for your responses. I would be happy to answer your questions but let it be known that I am not seeking to start a debate in this forum by doing so. 1. Yes. For Jesus said, among other things, my flesh is true food and my blood is true drink. 2. Yes. For Jesus said to his...

    Baptist Mission to South America

If all baptist missionaries went to South America at the exclusion of Europe, North America, and Australia - then yes, I would expect that there was some angle. I was informed that baptist missionaries are sent to all parts of the globe. Do I still think there might be some angle? No. My...

Calvinists still condemn contraceptives as John Calvin

I disagree that there are two camps in protestantism. You say there are those that rely on themselves as authority and those that rely on the bible as authority. In the end, both rely on themselves as the final authority because the bible is interpreted in many different ways. It is...

Calvinists still condemn contraceptives as John Calvin

Augustine -- On Marriage and Concupiscence (Book I) It is, however, one thing for married persons to have intercourse only for the wish to beget children, which is not sinful: it is another thing for them to desire carnal pleasure in cohabitation, but with the spouse only, which involves...
