CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I am a recent deconvert.
I was a Christian for 20 years, I received a Theology Honours degree and have been in leadership positions in two churches.
I believed myself to be saved, born again, said the sinner's prayer, experienced baptism in the Holy Spirit (and water) and have spoke in tongues and received confirmation that words I have delivered have been of God. I live the same way I did before my deconversion. I attend church, and I have the same moral standards that I always have and for which I was judged suitable for being a church Elder in accordance with the scripture, which my church took seriously.
I say this because it is easy to say to deconverts that they were never Christian, or else they left because they wanted to sin. Mostly, I think, because it is frightening to see someone convert from Christianity. I don't have an explanation, either why I did, or why it is scary. Just an observation.
I now consider myself to be Humanist.
