• CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

    Human Nature/Sinful Nature

Good point Hillsage. Perhaps I was wrong to say 'human nature'. I suppose what I meant is that I hear people justify sinful behavior a lot by claiming that it's in our nature as human beings. Carnal nature would indeed be more accurate.

    Human Nature/Sinful Nature

I've come to a conclusion that what we call human nature is in fact the sinful nature we are supposed to crucify and give up for Christ. I only bring this up because I've read posts and articles all over the place where a lot of the time certain opinions are supported by "it's just human...

    what happens to the soul?

On what basis do you make this claim? I'm genuinely curious. If only God is eternal, how can you claim the soul exists forever?

    what happens to the soul?

And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us an understanding, that we may know Him who is true; and we are in Him who is true, in His Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God and eternal life. --1 John 5:20 This verse defines eternal life for us. God is eternal life. Not the...

    what happens to the soul?

A punishment of death is everlasting because the effects of said punishment never end. It's irreversible and lasts forever hence everlasting. I understand what you're view is, and I respect your opinion, however I believe there's more scriptural evidence that points to annihilation rather than...

    what happens to the soul?

If you consider ceasing to exist a punishment, and you consider the finality of that punishment, then yes, it is everlasting because the effect is unchangeable and eternal. Would you consider physical death to be everlasting? You've also not addressed the fact that in order to be separated...

    what happens to the soul?

Immortal:not subject to death or decay; having perpetual life. In other words, if something is immortal, it by definition cannot be destroyed. Therefore, the soul is not immortal. I understood what you meant, but the point of my reply was to demonstrate that the term...

    Looking for writer(s)...

Hello, I'm looking for help with a website I'm making and though I could do it myself, I think the outcome would be much better having someone more skilled than myself help with the writing. I would also prefer the site to be more of a team effort than a solo project simply for the sake of...

    what happens to the soul?

The phrase 'forever and ever' does not mean eternal. When you look at the Greek it's more accurate to say ages and ages. It's a period of time, not infinite. The punishment may be everlasting in its effect, but that doesn't mean the act of punishment is ongoing. Furthermore, those who do...

    what happens to the soul?

We know that the soul can in fact be destroyed. Matthew 10:28 tells us this. "And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear Him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell." We see here that "kill the body" is in contrast with "kill the...

Thanks for the input and the link :] I'm going to watch that video as I've always been intrigued by the NDE phenomena.

    what happens to the soul?

For a soul to exist in punishment eternally would imply that each soul is immortal and also eternal. Which we know isn't true because only God is eternal. So at some point the soul must cease to exist. Do you believe that the lake of fire will literally destroy everything wicked when it's...

    what happens to the soul?

I enjoy a little back and forth, just wasn't sure if I had posted in the right place for that topic is all We agree on the term everlasting, however I see a difference between 'punishment' and 'punishing'. I view an everlasting punishment as a punishment with everlasting consequences. Whereas...

    what happens to the soul?

The same verse in the KJV says 'everlasting punishment.' To be destroyed completely would certainly constitute as both 'everlasting' and a punishment. Not trying to start a debate over this view point though. Just curious how if Heaven and hell are outside of time, then how can anyone draw...
