  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Does God's grace depend on man's works?

Now to him that works is the reward not reckoned of grace, but of debt. But to him that works not, but believes on him that justifies the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness. (Romans 4:4-5) Rufus

Does God's grace depend on man's works?

But that IS merely your opinion, isn't it as you are probably unable to prove it as truth? [/INDENT]Classic LDS double speak. Just like the myriad definitions of salvation or heaven, to name a couple. If you truly believe that Phoebe Ann's comments (AND Taste for Truth's) comments were of...

Does God's grace depend on man's works?

So every man is born saved? That is what it sounds like you are saying. If so, where is man's free will in this equation? Rufus

    Question for Orthodox Christians

Oh, I don't think I'm wise, TfT. In fact, I think that I am quite far from it. What I did see, however, what I thought was an obvious contradiction. That all. Not a lot of wisdom. Just something that looked liked like a duck, quacked like a duck, flew like a duck, now you are telling me it is...

    Question for Orthodox Christians

I don't believe that you were given the "straight skinny" with the link provided in post #31. One of the LDS sacred texts is titled the Pearl of Great Price. I really do not want to go into a lot of detail here about it's origins, etc. I merely want to point out one chapter of one book in that...

Mormon Theocracy and the Civil Authority

I just thought I'd bring it up in all fairness. I agree that the Catholic contenders are pretty much DOA. Can you imagine this conversation in say, 1961, when Kennedy was running. It was BIG question then. Now I guess the BIG question now regarding unorthodox religions. Have a nice week...

Mormonism Versus CF Teachings About Salvation

Sounds familiar. Another week, another moniker, huh Evergrow? Do you seriously believe that you will be judged according to your works? I am truly sorry if you do. The Book of Revelation, chapter 20 is quite clear that when the book(S) are opened (NOT the Book of Life, that's separate) "and...

Mormonism Versus CF Teachings About Salvation

What's my point? Indeed. My point is that adding the phrase "after all we can do" (2 Nephi 25:23), is changing the entire meaning of grace. Why be a Christian? I think that is the most obvious question of all and I, quite frankly, am astounded that you would even ask it. The answer is simply to...

Mormon Theocracy and the Civil Authority

I pray that you are asking the same questions of Santorum and Gingerich who are both Catholic and accept the Pope as Christ's representative on earth. Rufus

Mormonism Versus CF Teachings About Salvation

In what language? Which definition of salvation are you speaking of? The one where ALL people who have ever lived will be saved because Jesus Christ died on the cross for us. OR are you speaking of salvation as it pertains to us earning exaltation into a celestial kingdom? The BIBLICAL word...

No entry into the Celestial Kingdom without J.S. consent

That's it??? Being mortal make one a false prophet??? Three things. One, please tell me which "mainstream" Christian church(es) that you are speaking of. Specifics, Man, specifics. If you are so intent on derailing thread at least you can exert the effort required to be specific in your...

No entry into the Celestial Kingdom without J.S. consent

And you know this how? What is your evidence that what Isaiah is with error? Deuteronomy makes it very clear that any man who utters a false prophecy is NOT to be feared. "When a prophet speaketh in the name of the LORD, if the thing follow not, nor come to pass, that is the thing which the...

    Re: Mormon Teachings

Yes. Do you believe that Jesus Christ is the only way to the Father? I do and I'm not LDS. Does that eliminate me? I don't believe so. What is your take on that? Rufus

Loving people enough to continue telling the truth

Amen, Phoebe Ann. This reminds me of the passgage about telling the truth, even if it creates enemies. (Galatians 4:16, Am I therefore become your enemy, because I tell you the truth?) Be of good cheer, Sister. I KNOW of people who have left the teachings of Joseph Smith to follow Christ...

    Comparing God to Man

You're welcome  That's fine. I just didn't understand why you felt the need to attempt to stifle intellectual intercourse. Nothing more, nothing less. Rufus
