  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Do you think that the story of Adam and Eve literally happened?

Nobody objects to the historicity of the Bible (or any other element of truth contained therein) unless they've already decided in advance to believe something else and reject that aspect of the Bible. Is any objection to Adam and Eve different in principle to an atheist objecting to the bible...

Do you think that the story of Adam and Eve literally happened?

The truth is found in God's word and while people can discover additional truths not revealed specifically in scripture, conclusions from general revelation that contradict special revelation are always going to be in error. We are in fact told that God's word is always true (Proverbs 30:5)...

Do you think that the story of Adam and Eve literally happened?

What you've written here is a logic error. It makes no sense to start with what we know. A billion people right now 'know' there is no God, but they're all wrong. Billions other 'know' their god(s) are the truth, but they're all wrong. "Mr Evidence" (yourself) has no irrefutable proof that...

Do you think that the story of Adam and Eve literally happened?

How interesting. Can/should we conclude your position then is to lean on your own understanding then?

Agreed, thank you for your faith and encouragement to myself and others here.

Do you think that the story of Adam and Eve literally happened?

So if the question is what God did do, are you saying it is more reasonable to base what God did by applying a set of presuppositional assumptions to arrive at an inferred conclusion (as opposed to what He directly claimed to have done within His word)? We've already established that...

Do you think that the story of Adam and Eve literally happened?

Just removing all the extra and boiling down to a short/direct answer ;) Nobody is questioning the logic in the deductive reasoning process, but the assumptions from which the logic & deductive reasoning is built upon. So if it is reasonable to imagine a never-before-seen millions-of-years...

Do you think that the story of Adam and Eve literally happened?

Hi Komatiite and Happy New Year. To be clear, stating "we have human fossils much older" is a statement of faith, correct? In other words, it is an inferred/calculated age based upon a set of assumptions, as opposed to a written record corroborating when these humans lived relative to a fixed...

Do you think that the story of Adam and Eve literally happened?

I agree. Besides a talking serpent, the Bible also has a record of a donkey talking to Baalam. The idea that all of these recorded events should be taken as not true often stems from the influence of Platonism on early church fathers; however, yet again the Bible stands in opposition to this...

Do you think that the story of Adam and Eve literally happened?

Hi Kees, I do believe Adam and Eve are literal individuals from history... and it appears the biblical authors did so, as well as how Jesus references scripture. First off, the creation account was believed to be true and as such, it was evidenced that the Hebrews worked 6 days and rested on...

Old Earth Geology Part 3 (Green River Formation)

To: @The Barbarian , @KomatiiteBIF CC: @-57 Apologies for the long post... addressing multiple prior posts. As Augustine's interpretation is clearly influenced by Platonistic philosophy and in contradiction with what is written by biblical authors, his view that this section of scripture (and...

Old Earth Geology Part 3 (Green River Formation)

CC: @KomatiiteBIF , @-57 I'm suggesting we are making a lot of assumptions (and refuting those assumptions) in order to discount what is clearly written in scripture. As a brief step into history... Suggesting the events written in scripture (albeit written in historical narrative) were in...

Old Earth Geology Part 3 (Green River Formation)

Hi 57, I've enjoyed your posts and remarks here and agree that there are interpretive challenges to the view that the Green River formation represents millions of years. Many philosophers of science support that there is often more than one valid framework for interpreting evidence and while it...

Old Earth Geology Part 3 (Green River Formation)

Hi 57. I agree that the conclusions from an old earth framework do have interpretive challenges, of which you pointed out several. Another major challenge is nobody really knows the exact details of the flood--the Biblical account gives a high-level synopsis and the purpose/outcome of the...

Need help with a question a atheist presented

Yes, this is a good call-out and affirms the speculative nature (and not backed by data-substantiated evidence gathered from scientific observation) of ideas supporting a universe of infinite age.
