  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Examining the Myth of the Gay Agenda

Well, they're comparable in that they're both sexualities that have been put into the "deviant slot." In that regard, their struggles are comparable and that's all I was agreeing with before. My point later was that even though they have that in common (and that both groups want some of the same...

Examining the Myth of the Gay Agenda

I do want to clarify: it's not that the attitudes I mentioned are like.. the general feeling of the community. But those are present attitudes. As I said before, there is a wealth of political differences within the community. Many people believe many different things. I also think that the...

Examining the Myth of the Gay Agenda

A very good point. Agreed. I find that comparison infinitely more applicable. Which is kind of my point. In very few cases do these comparisons really hold up. Though you do make a good argument for further similarities between homosexuals and pedophiles in that aside from gay marriage, a...

A thought I figured I could share here

I think those laws were cited more to point out how hypocritical it is to cite Biblical law to condemn homosexuality when other Biblical laws are not applied. It's not really that the laws themselves were specific to the culture, it's that if a person is going to insist on one Biblical sex law...

Examining the Myth of the Gay Agenda

I agree that we should understand sexuality in all its forms, but I have to point out, that we have shared similar struggles is pretty much the only applicable link between homosexuals and pedophiles. There are distinguishing characteristics that set the two groups apart and I think that while...

    Generosity Lives

I do want to say that I'm not trying to say that the US is the most generous country ever or that other places (such as Denmark) didn't contribute an impressive sum as well or that people couldn't have donated more. I was initially aiming for a worldwide count of total donations from across the...

Examining the Myth of the Gay Agenda

I personally think that the whole "homosexuals are after your kids!" thing is just a way of dehumanizing homosexuals as the sinister Other, the alien who wishes everyone nothing but the worst. Along with the idea that AIDS is a "gay disease," that we're out to recruit people and that we spend...

Examining the Myth of the Gay Agenda

Piggy-backing on this. I suppose one could say there's an agenda in the sense that most homosexuals share common goals (starting families, raising children, etc) and will commonly come together to reach for these goals. But the "Gay Agenda" tends to imply some sense of overall organization that...

Scott Roeder gets life in jail

Sorry about the double-negatives. It's late and my writing skills are not the best right about now.

Examining the Myth of the Gay Agenda

As someone who once made this mistake of interchanging "child molester" and "pedophile" (and was thankful you corrected him on it), I think I can shed some light on this one. Usually when someone says "pedophile" they mean "child-molester." The words have unfortunately become interchangeable...

A thought I figured I could share here

This. And this. I always felt that quoting biblical law to explain why homosexuality is wrong was the definition of cherry-picking.

    Damnation test

Aside from the whole general malaise of sadness, I totally agree. Limbo actually doesn't seem so terrible. I'd get to talk to the philosophers of old and all sorts of cool people in the pre-Christian times.

Scott Roeder gets life in jail

I'm not positive, but I think his point was that what Roeder did could be considered vigilante justice (if you agree that abortion is murder etc) which is something that could be argued is "right" without being something society cannot allow as it puts the law into far more violent and...

4 largest disaster relief organizations in the US

Bolding mine. It's in poor taste to talk about who's a "better" charity. It kind of works against the very idea of charity.

    Generosity Lives

I agree. I understand both Penumbra's and Mystman's points. For whatever reason the money was given or how much per person on average was given, people gave. And it amounted to a sizable sum that can help rebuild. It's true that the amount is just about on par with contributions to the Hurricane...
