  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

    Scientific Atheism is dishonest

I very recently come across information that indicated as recent as 1900, the going understanding within mainstream science (referencing Kelvin and others) was that the earth was 100 million years old. Interestingly, the age of rocks supported this age at the time. Now, mainstream science...

Crucifixion and forgiveness, a non sequitur

I have to apologize, I didn't realize you responded to my last post - oversight on my part. Apologetics is defined (by Google) as "reasoned arguments or writings in justification of something, typically a theory or religious doctrine" - I believe you and I probably agree this is a reasonable...

Eternal life is a ridiculous concept as described by Christianity, it is literally "beyond belief"

Fair enough and in my opinion reasonable to cite something heard on a radio broadcast. I've heard similar discussions on this topic as well where the Biblical description of the "New Jerusalem" is a city that will be approx. 1,400 x 1,400 x 1,400 miles (as tall as it is wide and deep) and so...

    Righteousness

I think any honest Christian struggles with this to some extent. You are right in that our righteousness is like filthy rags to the Lord; however, Philippians 3:8-10 tells us, "Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I...

Eternal life is a ridiculous concept as described by Christianity, it is literally "beyond belief"

Hey Dave, sorry for not getting back sooner. Thank you for the responses! You be interested in thinking about where moral law comes from (why is it that humans, unlike all other forms of life, intrinsically know the difference between good and bad, and so do things that are in care for another...

    Scientific Atheism is dishonest

"Scientific atheism asserts that reason and observation are sufficient grounds to disprove the existence of God. But since the existence of God cannot be disproven by reason or science this must be a dishonest position." The following article goes into more detail and I feel it was presented...

    Scientific Atheism is dishonest

In response to @pitabread Also addressed to @Subduction Zone , @Non sequitur , @HitchSlap , @Dave Ellis The comparison is not in the subject (I agree night & day difference) but the availability of time to study, the same relative intelligence of scientists in both fields, and the same...

    Scientific Atheism is dishonest

Applies to: @Non sequitur @pitabread @Subduction Zone Yes, that's okay... there is a full spectrum of beliefs on this topic within Christianity and Christians will debate other Christians on this - which is good. I'm glad you pointed out ToE as opposed to FoE (Fact of...) or PoE (Principle...

    Scientific Atheism is dishonest

Your first statement, "He had never looked at evidence for or against god" is unlikely. In referring to his study of quantum mechanics, Collins stated "So I concluded that all of this stuff about religion and faith was a carryover from an earlier, irrational time, and now that science had begun...

    Scientific Atheism is dishonest

God has made Himself sufficiently evident to be believed upon. I think of people like Francis Collins who is a renown geneticist and devout atheist who found irrefutable evidence of God. Not being able to articulate even one form of evidence that would convince you of God's existence gives...

    Scientific Atheism is dishonest

I couldn't follow your train of though very well, I am sorry... but do want to understand. Can you answer the question of what scientific evidence would convince you? Did you read them all already and in entirety?

    Scientific Atheism is dishonest

I would agree. Only problem with this position is that mainstream science cannot test prayer, cannot test God's omniscience, cannot test the origin of life; however, yet asserts that God does not exist anyway. See my post #1164 on this: "If you believe in God, you see evidence; if you don't...

    Scientific Atheism is dishonest

If you believe in God, you see evidence; if you don't believe in God you don't see evidence. Remember, science by itself is inadequate for proving/disproving the existence of God. For example, science cannot disprove the miracles Jesus performed and negate the hundreds of eye-witness accounts...

    Scientific Atheism is dishonest

As per the OP from @mindlight as follows: "Scientific atheism asserts that reason and observation are sufficient grounds to disprove the existence of God. But since the existence of God cannot be disproven by reason or science this must be a dishonest position." My personal take was that it...
