  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

    Those Critics of the LDS

And how has it been communicated to us? By God through his Word. Not sure what makes you believe the bible can't be used "for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness." Unless you advocate just throwing the Bible out, though you'd have to make a strong case for that.

    Those Critics of the LDS

This isn't about whether my way is the correct way. You asked a simple question with the OP and I threw in my two cents. I haven't put forth any statements regarding my personal beliefs besides that obvious false teachings should be combated and corrected. I believe the LDS church should be...

    Those Critics of the LDS

When did it never have it's authority I'd say is a better question. 2 Timothy Chapter 3 16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: 17 That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished...

    Those Critics of the LDS

I'm just using the tools available to me, I don't make the doctrine, the bible does, and to appeal to any other authority is wrong. Which is why I'm not using myself as a judge of sound doctrine, I only purport what i can weigh against the bible and find sound. Edit: What I mean by authority is...

    Those Critics of the LDS

Honestly as abrasive as this may seem, I think that rrm has it right. If some doctrine, teaching or what have you falls short and is not sound in the least Christians should be more than willing to combat it. Allowing a lie to perpetuate itself and grow and lead others down a false path while...

Mr. Perry quote "As a Christian I have a clear directive to support Israel"

You're right it is a subjective term and of course when Israel was reestablished there's going to be an influx of people, I don't see what point you're trying to make. If they were in "relative harmony" before what makes it so hard to live in harmony now? So Israel gets a lot of aid from the...

Mr. Perry quote "As a Christian I have a clear directive to support Israel"

They must be pretty "great" to survive in the middle east for as long as they have. Which is no small feat considering the number of people there who want the nation wiped off the map. The ultimate goal of the religion known as Islam is to either convert everyone in the world or have them...

House passes the "Let Women Die" act

An ectopic pregnancy isn't something that's going to kill the woman immediately. If they go to a doctor if they're seeing their symptoms they can have the pregnancy aborted still because the tube can't support the fetus. The bill just says the federal government won't pay for it through PPACA.

House passes the "Let Women Die" act

The bill only prevents federal funding, that comes from PPACA, from going to abortions. The problem with articles written about the bill is they are so full of bias it isn't funny, try reading the actual bill then make your own assessments rather than running with just an article. Here's a...

    My hope in prayer

1Th 5:17 Pray without ceasing. 1Th 5:18 In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. I believe that you should be in a constant state of prayer, kind of plays into having an intimate relationship with Christ, but I believe you might of taken my...

(this was posted in the same thread under Christian Current affairs) Gen 13:12 Abram dwelled in the land of Canaan, and Lot dwelled in the cities of the plain, and pitched his tent toward Sodom. Gen 13:13 But the men of Sodom were wicked and sinners before the LORD exceedingly. Gen 13:14 And...

    My hope in prayer

Jer 17:5 Thus saith the LORD; Cursed be the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from the LORD. Pro 3:5 Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. Pro 3:6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct...

Gen 12:1 Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father's house, unto a land that I will shew thee: Gen 12:2 And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing: Gen...
