  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Can Hebrew linguistics help clarify the 70 weeks in Daniel 9:25?

Roman, One issue is whether the phrase 7 weeks and 62 weeks works in Hebrew. It sounds clunky in English, and normally in Hebrew you would just say 69 weeks, not this broken up format. So I thought to look to see whether the Bible elsewhere has expressions like "a time and a time" or "_ days...

Can Hebrew linguistics help clarify the 70 weeks in Daniel 9:25?

Thanks Roman. I think this might be Ice's video that you are talking about: Unfortunately, I did not find him getting into much clear detail in that video about how the Hebrew grammar would put the 7 + 62 weeks together to make 69 weeks the time for the "Messiah Prince" figure's arrival in...

Can Hebrew linguistics help clarify the 70 weeks in Daniel 9:25?

Daniel 9:25 has been a bit of an intriguing language puzzle, since in ancient times they didn't use punctuation marks. The verse runs in Hebrew: ותדע ותשכל מן־מצא דבר להשיב ולבנות ירושלם עד־משיח נגיד שבעים שבעה ושבעים ששים ושנים תשוב ונבנתה רחוב וחרוץ ובצוק העתים׃ Word for word, this says...

"The Solution for the Russian/Ukrainian War". An Approach of Love

The conflict in Ukraine is sad for me. Russians and Ukrainians are brothers with a long close history and culture. The Ukrainian Anthem calls Ukrainians members of the "Cossack Generation", and Cossacks are both Russian and Ukrainian. The Don and Kuban Cossacks are two of the most famous, and...

    Corrective Baptism

In my experience, ROCOR seems to just want to call ROCOR baptism "baptism" in those cases, and to save that the original heterodox baptism didn't count, thus making ROCOR baptism not a rebaptism. St Basil however, in a case of a rebaptism that he supported, did use the term rebaptism, so it...

Russia preparing imminent incursion into Ukraine?

About 2008, a college professor told me that if NATO or the UN were going to recognize Kosovo as independent from Serbia, then it could set a precedent as to whether Russia could recognize South Ossetia as independent from Georgia. You wrote, "That said there is no excuse for the Russian...

Russia preparing imminent incursion into Ukraine?

Did Russia actually have much less control over South Ossetia before 2008? Russia had peacekeeper troops there before 2008, and South Ossetia was de facto running itself independent of Georgia. After the war with Georgia, Russia recognized them as a separate state and still has forces there. I...

    Corrective Baptism

My guess is that the Opening Post was talking about Reception by EO Rebaptism because the Poster (Light of the East) is a Catholic coming to Orthodoxy. Buzuxi talked about corrective baptism in Post #4. In my Post #6, I was talking about Reception by Baptism. ROCOR does Reception by Rebaptism...

Russia preparing imminent incursion into Ukraine?

I'm not aware of Russia redrawing any borders in 2008. Russia had peacekeepers in South Ossetia before 2008.

    Corrective Baptism

To be clear, the general Russian Tradition (MP and OCA in particular) does not "rebaptise" or give a second, EO baptism to classic mainstream Protestants (eg. Lutherans) or Catholics. Canon 7 of the 2nd Ecumenical Council and Canon 95 of the Sixth Council lay out two basic categories of...

I hope that they will have peace. Someone with relatives there in Church today asked me to pray for peace there.

Russia preparing imminent incursion into Ukraine?

The full paragraph goes: SOURCE: Beggars All: Reformation And Apologetics: Luther: Be a sinner, and let your sins be strong It would be hard for me to think that Luther is literally intentionally instructing his followers to deliberately sin and perform what they believe to be basically and...

Russia preparing imminent incursion into Ukraine?

Well, that's helpful. You are saying that he meant to recognize that you are sinning, not to literally sin. That would make sense, because it's hard to think of Luther consciously advocating some plain simple basically sinful behavior. Nonetheless, this sounds weird, even if that's what he...
