  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

    Mind-Body Problem?

Only if objections are raised against the idea the person is denying. Objections other than, "I can't believe that" or, "it'll never happen that _______" without a reason why it'll never happen other then saying "because, it can't." But thanks, for encouraging me to explain further.

Liberal Moral Relativist Theology Misses the Plain Truth of the Bible

Paula, diplomatic, you just make the whole thing so much better with everything you say. "She shouldn't have to "take back her claim" One of the author's claims was that conservatives don't always interpret the Bible literally, as some liberals like to think" So not all conservatives...

    Mind-Body Problem?

"You can keep on repeating that scientists will find it, someday they will, and believe whatever, but it doesn't change the logical impossibility of the mind being physical." The reality is, if they showed something in the brain and said, "this is the mind" you would say "no it isn't" because...

    Mind-Body Problem?

"A materialism which claims the brain and the mind are separated things and that one affects the other (though one was originally created by the other), which leaves the answer of how this interaction takes place to neuroscience and also does not adress the question of how the mind can be...

Liberal Moral Relativist Theology Misses the Plain Truth of the Bible

"A primary difference between liberals and conservatives theologically is the way they interpret the Bible. Liberals read the Bible symbolically or allegorically, as a collection of interesting stories to take whatever meaning out of that pleases them. This allows them to reject various portions...

Liberal Moral Relativist Theology Misses the Plain Truth of the Bible

Parse: "To break (a sentence) down into its component parts of speech with an explanation of the form, function, and syntactical relationship of each part." Nope don't think I did that, but I didn't edit, I won't deny that. The reality is that Ms. Alexander doesn't at any point take back her...

    Mind-Body Problem?

Okay, the first step to talking on these things with people is to actually read what the people say. So, where is the drugs and alchohol comment? Read post 32!!! It's right there. Second, you're right, Searle does say that the two affect each other, but not before the brain creates the...

Liberal Moral Relativist Theology Misses the Plain Truth of the Bible

So, I had to read all 29 posts in this thread because I wanted to see if anyone pointed out the most glaring contradiction in the whole article. It jumped out at me right away. Here it is (I'll string together a few of the statements to indicate the contradiction just for clarity's sake)...

Hmmm.......that's something i'll have to think about. Very interesting idea.

    Getting Beyond The Freewill/Determinism Impasse

I think that claims on God's relation to time should probably be left to another post as that is a massive topic all in its self that warrants much thought, but I think that to assume that everyone here believes the same thing in respect to God and time is unfair.

    Getting Beyond The Freewill/Determinism Impasse

I don't know any person who believes in freewill who would say that the choices we make are completely made within an "experience vacuum." Obviously someone who has been attacked by a dog is going to make decisions relating to dogs as a result of their experience, but this doesn't imply some...

    Mind-Body Problem?

Lifesaver, i've been responding to your objections to materialism, so maybe you could respond to my objection to dualism (relating to alchohol/drugs and the affects on the mind. See above for further details) Peace.

    Mind-Body Problem?

That aside, where is it if it's not in the brain? That is a laughable problem at the best. Last time I checked the brain was underexplored and there is space in the brain for other things to exist. I don't know if you know much about "chemistry" which is "the science of the composition...

    Getting Beyond The Freewill/Determinism Impasse

I agree that because human experience seems to indicate that we have a choice the burden of proof is shifted to the determinist, but ultimately if if they are right all I can say is "so what!" If I don't at least "appear" to make some choices, like to eat, drink water, work to earn money, then...

    Mind-Body Problem?

I agree with Prof. Frink in that Neurobiologists have not shown how this all works out scientifically, but philosophers have shown that Dualism is a completely untenable position with no logical legs on which to stand. If you "Lifesaver" can "save" dualism I'm sure you'll be placed in...
