  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Where is all of the good Christian music?

Well the Bible actually makes such references for example Psalm 95:3. It's why i am hesitant to criticize songs, the Bible is a big book and most people when writing Christian songs do take a great deal of direct scriptural inspiration from it.

Where is all of the good Christian music?

"Delight yourself in the Lord and he shall give you the desires of thy heart" Psalm 37:4 God made us unique conscious beings for a reason and it wasn't so that we could be robots but so that we would have unique individual desires that do not conflict with his truth. People underestimate...

Is a rebellion against praise and worship music inevitable?

He's older than you and therefore knows more, that's how it works....except for Elihu, and Timothy, and....never mind :)

Where is all of the good Christian music?

If you are already saved, why do you need to be continually reminded about how horrible you WERE? What are the qualifications for being "worthy to be saved" anyway? Being perfect? if you were perfect you wouldn't need to be saved. Man was worth it to God, which means nothing more than that...

We knew the Google people were politically biased but...

Did you notice that when you Google "Conservatism", whereas at one time you were given: Edmund Burke, William F Buckley and Russell Kirk as the defining figures of the movement, you now get : Edmund Burke, William F Buckley and Jonathan Krohn. Really? And if they were going to do...

    Jennifer Knapp coming out.

I believe it is you that have the task of winning over the hearts and minds; atleast across the whole of Christendom where it actually matters. As for the charge of putting words in your mouth, i would say this. If your statments were not generally relativistic, i don't understand their...

I was not discussing the persuasiveness of arguments but their validity, this is not dependent on Pathos. Friend, you are absolutely free to indulge the idea that no argument is in general more credible than any other, and the consequences of that belief are exactly what I have described in...

Is the idea here that you think that academics are above outlandish views? Actually, they are very good at it ....some of those academics are on the fringe, but not all. The opinion you describe is itself on the fringe. I also don't share your sense of the privileged status of the academic...

People disagree about many things, not just the Bible, it isn't special, and how "hot" or passionately someone does it has no bearing on the credibility of the argument (by "hot" you didn't mean to suggest relatively large numbers on both sides did you? because if you believe that, it seems...

I think your still missing the point; i was talking about your reasoning criteria. It leads to the idea that every disagreement is equivalent, and that leads to placing nonsensical views on equal footing with rational ones.

I think you are missing the fact that I am addressing your entire mode of argument. The "outlandish claims" i was referring to were any type of outlandish claims, including ones you would find outlandish. I suppose whether or not the idea that 9/11 was carried out by the Norwegian mafia is...

This is not about being a statistician, it is about conducting conversations in a way that is fundamentally coherent, on any topic , and this equivalency argument of yours does not allow us to do that. It demands we equate the most outlandish claims with the most legitimate disagreements.
