  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

    Blessed Virgin Mary testimonials

I thank God for His rising from the dead. The Good God heals my soul in Mary, the Immaculate, the Masterpiece of Grace, the World of God, the Holy Place, the Sanctuary of the Eternal Trinity. The Psalter of the Blessed Virgin Mary by St. Bonaventure is so beautiful. PSALM 21 O God, my God...

The snare of devotion to Mary.

I find the Rosary to be the opposite of the snare. For years I didn't pray it. And it can be difficult for me to pray alone due to ill health. So I pray it with my family. And now--for when they are not available--I'm praying it using an audio CD. It is a free CD anyone can get from the...

    Immaculate conception of Mary?

I think we should be respectful of each other. I think it's important that we all respect each other where we are at. As far as the quotation: I quoted from the link below at the Greek Orthodox site, which seems to agree that if the Church is a universal organism, it must have a supreme...

    Immaculate conception of Mary?

It does come down to whom we trust. I don't know whether the quote is true or false. I do know that Christ built the Church on St. Rock, and that I think the Papacy and the Immaculate Conception are true.

    Immaculate conception of Mary?

I think that Primacy and Supremacy are the same. That's why Jesus said to St. Rock, "You are Rock, and upon this rock I will build my Church. I will give you the keys to the Kingdom of Heaven. Whatever you bind on earth will be bound in Heaven." As I understand it, the Greek Orthodox site...

The snare of devotion to Mary.

Right. We both have different perspectives and have to follow our consciences. Even being a Catholic, as I understand it, I'm not strictly obligated to believe in any private revelation. Not even Fatima, Lourdes, or Guadalupe. I do believe in them. But Our Lady expects me to respect where...

The snare of devotion to Mary.

If it were the only piece of evidence, you might have a good point, though as I understand it, the image on the other side of the wall was damaged. Whereas Our Lady's image, which was between it and the bomb, was not. Reportedly, the windows in the Church and around the Church were broken too...

The snare of devotion to Mary.

I don't know much. And I think the basic traditional narrative probably contains some historical inaccuracies. But I believe it is basically true, and it sounds like there may be no alternate story which makes as much sense of the facts that we do have, such as: --the 1921 bombing intended to...

The snare of devotion to Mary.

Thank you Arsenios. But I don't see how I am a better man of faith than you. I'm glad that we both love the Mother of God. I don't see how your post answers my question about whether the Orthodox see Mary as warm and Motherly, and ourselves as little children. As far as "errant...

The snare of devotion to Mary.

I don't think I'm saying that one would have to prove it is a lie. I'm asking: where is a credible alternative story that fits with the evidence that we do have regarding the the image of Our Lady of Guadalupe and related matters?

The snare of devotion to Mary.

Just some other thoughts... If the traditional story is made up, if we suppose it is largely made up....some of my questions--along with the issue of the miraculous image and the miracles--would be: --who made it up and why did people believe it? --if there is no record of who made up the...

The snare of devotion to Mary.

As I continue to wrestle with the matters of related to Our Lady of Guadalupe, here are some of my thoughts: Again, the most difficult problem with the story given by the "four evangelists" of Guadalupe (from the 1600s) is the silence of Zumarraga and the other church writers in the 1530s and...

The snare of devotion to Mary.

I don't see how Our Lady of Guadalupe is smarmy. As to the other terms, don't the Orthodox experience Mary as warm and motherly as the New Eve? I might not have this exactly right, but I think it's in Luke's 18th chapter that they were bringing even infants to Jesus and the disciples rebuked...

The snare of devotion to Mary.

I looked at the Wikipedia article you cited (I think it's a little interesting how we put a degree of faith in Wikipedia, but may be more skeptical about other things relating to Our Lady), and I've done some reflection and reading on the subject. I don't have any authority in the matter. But...

The snare of devotion to Mary.

I don't know about the non-Christian miracles you refer to. As to Our Lady of Guadalupe, what do you think of the evidence I mentioned in my last post, and the bio-physicist Callahan's infrared study of the image?
