  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

People from Finland, Canada, the UK, France, Germany, Norway, etc...please chime in

Those 'statistics' (ahem: Daily Mail) are misleading. It should be noted that the UK is far FAR more densely populated than the United States is. When you look at the crime figures, it is very impressive that such a huge number of people who are packed into such a small space are able to, in...

People from Finland, Canada, the UK, France, Germany, Norway, etc...please chime in

This has been an interesting thread, although it does seem to have wandered off-topic. I am another American living in the UK (now with dual citizenship), and have been here for 10 years. As much as I enjoy visiting the States, I will never live there again. In no way do I feel my rights...

GOP Senators Say McCain Unfit to be Commander-In-Chief

A very informative article, thanks. I wonder what McCain supporters make of it?

    What is marriage?

But what is a committed relationship? This thread is about what defines marriage - at what point is it 'ok' to consider a couple committed/married?

    What is marriage?

Can a couple who marries in a strictly civil ceremony be considered properly married? Can they go ahead and have sex without sin even though they didn't swear their oaths before God? They are legally married, but are they married in the eyes of God? Or what about a couple who has a civil...

Obama Could Win 40 Percent Of Evangelicals

My father, a life-long Republican and evangelical pastor, will be voting for Obama - the first time we've ever voted for the same candidate!:clap::clap::clap::clap::clap::clap:

UK: Illegal immigrants flee weather, NHS

 The weather isn't that bad, and I absolutely LOVE the NHS. I won't be going back to the States until it sorts its healthcare system out. And probably not even then! Of course, I'm not illegal. Illegals aren't eligible for care on the NHS. So no wonder they're not happy with the...

Supreme Court Ruling Opens Door for States to Resume Executions by Lethal Injection

Perhaps this is true in some cases. But I still firmly believe we should not be in the business of putting human beings to death. It is not our place to do it, and it is murder. I absolutely agree with you on prison reform and crime prevention. Stop putting petty offenders and drug addicts...

Supreme Court Ruling Opens Door for States to Resume Executions by Lethal Injection

I agree that the criminals and "sickos" who carry out barbaric acts SHOULD feel shame. Absolutely. For those are indeed shameful acts, and society needs to be protected against the people that carry out those acts. But by allowing our government to kill human beings, we are ALL complicit in...

Supreme Court Ruling Opens Door for States to Resume Executions by Lethal Injection

Ah yes, because MONEY always comes before doing what's right. And that's the American Way. Thank you...I understand now.

Supreme Court Ruling Opens Door for States to Resume Executions by Lethal Injection

Indeed. No matter how it's done, it's still murder. Full stop. All this discussion about the logistics of it makes me feel sick, and it only serves to distract from the fact that's it's WRONG. It's wrong wrong wrong, and every single American should feel as humiliated and ashamed that I do that...

Does Anyone Actually Leave the Country?

georgiajedi, I see what you're getting at. I think the OP was asking for people who have left the country for political reasons alone. And for that to be the sole motivation for leaving a country, things would have to be pretty bad indeed, I think. I can't speak for anyone else, but in my...

Does Anyone Actually Leave the Country?

Of course we pay - you're being disingenuous. But what we pay out of every paycheck is far less than you do for your bloated employer-tied health insurance for those who are in work. The true freedom comes from the fact that if I were to lose my job or become unable to work through sickness or...
