  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

    Belief and evidence

I guess what I am asking, though obviously not eloquently.... Would there be a drawback to there being more obvious evidence? So that there was less need for faith? Many suggest that there is enough evidence but the more sceptical must find themselves wondering why the Almighty doesn't go to a...

    Prayers answered vs free will

Bad things happen, people suffer, prayers are ignored, this is said to be because we have free will.* So why does God ever answer a prayer? *I guess this question only applies to those who push the idea of free will as to why half the world is suffering. I posted this question as I asked it...

    Belief and evidence

Thanks for the feedback. I guess my question comes from the fact that faith is great, but where faith is in question the religious authorities point to evidence. It would be great if everyone had faith or if everybody thought the evidence was sufficient, but... would it also be as good if...

The gospels with respect to the resurrection.

Does it bother anyone that the gospels with respect to the resurrection differ so wildly? Is it enough that they all agree that Jesus was risen but differ in how the stone covering the tomb was moved, who was preesent and whether there were angels present and how many etc.?

    Prayers answered vs free will

Much is said of free will. God isn't pulling all our strings, that would never do, we have free will, that is the only way it could work. So how do people ever think that their prayers are answered? Surely asking something of God and Him delivering it would oppose free will?

    Belief and evidence

Some people simply believe, Some feel that there is sufficient evidence and because of this, they believe. Is one way better than the other? What if there was more evidence, enough that it was preposterous not to believe, such that we all believed, would that be even better?

Why did Jesus get a tomb?

How many followers did he have at the time? It seems that at the time of his death even his disciples had deserted him. I appreciate that some years later Christianity had plenty of followers.

Why did Jesus get a tomb?

Well I'm in the Uk and I have had it presented to me, have a look on Amazon, the reviews are plentiful and it is described as life changing. It is referred to frequently on this board and many quote from it in their sig. It would appear to be an important book from an outsider standpoint. It's...

    Fiery Hell

So to summarise.... What one thinks hell is depends on which metaphor you take and how you interpret it. Or for some it is whatever someone in religious authority has told them it is, and they have accepted without question.

Why did Jesus get a tomb?

Oh Ok, how frequently? To be fair, he seems to speak for the majority of you, I was given this book by a devoted Christian. Feel free to suggest a better read.

Why did Jesus get a tomb?

Sorry, I hadn't realised that posting here came with an obligation to visit daily I haven't read the bible, it's on my to do list though I guess the prophecies are in the OT? I thought that it was prophecised that Jesus got a tomb from what I read in 'Case for Christ', if not I am sorry...
