  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

    What am I missing?

People change my mind all the time, when they have verifiable facts. The only reason you fail to do so is because you don't have any. Yes. That's exactly how it works. And the fact that I keep finding problems and your onlý "solutions" are to just "ignore all these problems and accept it as...

    The Authentic Christian Religion

Because all of his followers here seem to disagree and use other definitions, for starters. You're among the first to suggest using the bible; the others are of the opinion that the followers have defined what the bible is.

    What am I missing?

Human history is full of accounts of people being burned, hung, quartered, and all sorts of other nasty things for opposing the ideas of the powerful. We're very resistant to change as a species. Unless it's the cool new gadget, anyway. People like listening to and telling stories. We've got...

    What am I missing?

No idea. I certainly don't have any. Way too late. It should have been a requirement since always, but it's been permissable to just make claims and have them stand by default for a long time, and we're only just starting to really put an end to that. You mean physical impossibilities in the...

    What am I missing?

Uhm... humans settling a new city/country? I'm pretty sure there's other options to creating a nation than instant creation from a large amount of settlers suddenly setting down there. We've seen that countless times. (How many settlers do you think there were, by the way? The numbers tend to...

    The Authentic Christian Religion

That's just going add another definition to the list, and a pretty useless one at that. If I decide for myself what the definition of being a christian is as an outsider it's not going to have much value. I asked people inside the group because I want to know their opinions.

    The Authentic Christian Religion

Ah, you mean that some issues divide the orthodox church, but orthodox christians on both sides agree the others are orthodox christians. I misunderstood. That makes more sense.

    The Authentic Christian Religion

Do they? I mean, graceandpeace doesn't accept mormons as christians, but mormons consider themselves and others as christians. So it doesn't seem that people on each side always agree.

    The Authentic Christian Religion

Great, so then we've added another definition to the list, namely "whatever Christ says it is"? I don't know what Christ said about it himself, can you explain it a bit?

    The Authentic Christian Religion

While an interesting story by CS Lewis, it doesn't address all of the issues. I'm okay with the idea that "christian" doesn't address whether someone is good or bad, but merely whether he believes in christ. (I think many christians would disagree though, as they try to distance themselves from...

    What am I missing?

No, it makes it an unproven assertion, like there exist millions of that we discard without a thought everyday. Since an mass exodus should generate loads of evidence, but instead we find nothing, the only reasonable conclusions to me is "it did not happen until evidence to the contrary". To...

    What am I missing?

But that's the thing... historic research shows the exile never happened. All those people wandering the desert for that long a time would have left marks, yet nothing was ever found. Just because people say it, write it down, or repeat it for a long time, doesn't make it true. They could have...

    What am I missing?

You can get testimonials from thousands of people every year claiming they saw Elvis. Just because someone says it doesn't make it true. This is already assuming that the people and events pictured in the book actually existed and happened. I'm not even there yet. I'm saying god was wrong in...

    What am I missing?

I don't usually commit them to memory. If I hear more, I'll try to remember. All of these and much more. There are so many questions to ask about the ark story or the 6 day creation that can only be answered by "physics didn't work back then" or "that part wasn't meant literally". They're not...

    The Authentic Christian Religion

Interesting story ViaCrucis. It relies heavily on "there's more of us, so we're right." to determine the meaning of the word "christian".
