  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Alleged apparitions at Garabandal -- what are your thoughts?

Maybe I’m wrong but I don’t think Mary told her to eat mud or a plant but to drink from a spring that only Bernadette could see. The crowed only saw her eating mud but in reality Bernadette was drinking from a spring that eventually did really materialize and that spring is where people go...

What to do with unapologetic "Cafeteria Catholics?"

To offer penance for them. Offering penance comes down to us from the apostles. Ever since the beginning Christians have believed that we can do penance for ourselves and others and offer that sacrifice up in union with Christ’s sacrifice on the cross for reparation, conversion, and...

What to do with unapologetic "Cafeteria Catholics?"

What to do with them? Speak the truth but in love. You can’t, not tell them they are in error, you must tell them they are in error but do it in non confrontational, no offensive manner. Explain the reasons why the Church says such and such is a sin or teaching and why it’s non-negotiable to...

Alleged apparitions at Garabandal -- what are your thoughts?

The Church does not favor the apparitions of Garabindal. They aren't condemned but they are officially discouraged. I guess one could have a pious devotion as long as nothing contradicts the faith if they believe in it but they should keep it private and not encourage public devotion until...

What is the Catholic interpretation of Ephesians 5.13-14?

It's centralized in Rome. The Church is one unified body of believers under the pope who is the bishop of Rome. The Orthodox rites have their patriarchs but they remain ununited with St. Peter, the one who is the viccar of Christ. But the Church is also a lose body of all those believers who...

    Catholic Question

Yeah, so what does that have to do with Luther not denying valid apostolic succession of the bishops? He never denied that the pope indeed is Peter’s successor. He just thought for what ever reason the Church fell into error under all the other popes. And his reconciliation offer was for...

    Catholic Question

You’ll find the answer to this by looking at Martin Luther himself. He never denied the succession of the bishops or the pope. He just thought that at some point in time they departed from the true faith. He never denied apostolic succession and he knew also that he was ending it with himself.

What is the Catholic interpretation of Ephesians 5.13-14?

I think it should also be made clear that God’s Church is not limited to the visible Catholic Church in Rome but it also is the mystical body of Christ made up of all the validly baptized where ever they all may be. We don’t want to fall into the trap of thinking the Church has to be one or...

What is the Catholic interpretation of Ephesians 5.13-14?

That is correct. The Church that God gave to us is a divine institution led by the Holy Spirit which is why it is the only "church" that has persevered for 2000 years and counting. Can you name for me any of the earthly institutions that has lasted since the 1 st century? Even after the...

What is the Catholic interpretation of Ephesians 5.13-14?

If the true Church is not the Catholic Church who's vicar sits in Rome then there isn’t a true Church and Christianity is a sham. If this, (division and disunity) is what God really gave to us, then I'm afraid Christianity is a sham. Can you name for me just one non Catholic Christian sect...

What is the Catholic interpretation of Ephesians 5.13-14?

It's the Catholic Church and it's right in front of you. I know you can't see that right now but let me put it this way, if it’s not then there isn’t a ‘true’ Church where we can know God with out speculating about Him and giving it a margin of error. And if there isn’t a true Church, then...

What is the Catholic interpretation of Ephesians 5.13-14?

From Christ. Where else could it come from? The question is, who has been given it from Christ to teach us what is true? Luther or the Catholic Church?

    The difference? One word. Authority.
