  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What do you do on your day of rest?

I don’t maintain a day of rest. First, my family life is not particularly conducive to a day of rest. Second, I don’t believe that either Jesus or Paul taught that a day of rest is required for followers of Christ. “For this reason the Jews persecuted Jesus, and sought to kill Him, because he...

    U.S. Presidential Elections

Despite my disagreement with you on the Electoral College, I am very much in agreement about primaries. Here in California we have a Top 2 primary system, which, in my opinion, opens up the primaries to more candidate possibilities while at the same time eliminating spoilers from the general...

    U.S. Presidential Elections

I have to disagree - the Electoral College forces candidates and parties to consider every state, appeal to the widest range of voters, and prevents winning national elections by winning regional areas at the expense of the rest of the country. Take a look at the linked video, it makes a good...

    Christians for Contraceptives

Agreed. Believe me, most Christians I know and fellowship with don't agree with my position (although I'm very fortunate to be part of a great church where there are a substantial number who do).

    Christians for Contraceptives

I suspect that it's only a new one to you because the Church has drifted so from the historical position it held for 1900 years that pregnancy prevention, in most cases, is Biblically unjustifiable. That's really the area where you (and most other Christians I know) and I disagree. Most think...

    Christians for Contraceptives

ALoveDivine, I have several thoughts and experiences that relate to your scenario. I have been in the position of bringing home less than $400 a week while I was married with two little children at home. It was really hard. Do you know what I would say to myself, if I could go back in time to...

    Christians for Contraceptives

Joshuanazar, I quote Romans 14 frequently, but I don't think that it applies in this case. Paul is referring to judging those who either choose to eat meat sacrificed to idols, or not; who observe a special day for the Lord, or not; or other such things where followers of Christ do have the...

    Christians for Contraceptives

The destruction of the unborn, either through abortion or due to "contraception" that prevents implantation, is a universal moral issue that goes beyond Christianity and which can and should be fought against in the public arena. However, as Christians, we should be seeking to reflect the mind...

    Christians for Contraceptives

ALoveDevine: I think you make the best possible secular argument for birth control that exists, it's precisely the argument I used to make ten years ago. If the Bible didn't provide us with any information that could lead us to understand God's mind on the issue I would still agree with you...

    Contraception?

Cuddles, given my post immediately above yours, I am clearly in opposition to contraception for the Christian. I also happen to be against masturbation generally. That said, Genesis 38:8-10 does not make a case against contraception or masturbation. Onan's first problem was that he clearly...

    Christians for Contraceptives

You have made an excellent secular case for contraceptives, and ten years ago I would have been right there with you, cheering you on. I now believe there is a strong Biblical case against them, and I am completely unable (try as I might) to find a Biblical argument for them. I have tried to...

    Contraception?

While it is true that the Bible does not talk about birth control specifically it is also true that God has made His opinion on children eminently clear. Requiring God to speak in depth or directly to the issue of birth control in the face of all the Bible has to say about children being a gift...

Your remains are not necessary for a future resurrection

The point is: If God can resurrect a martyr who was burned at the stake for his stand for Christ (and I don't know anyone who doubts that He can or that He will), He can resurrect a child who burned to death in an accidental fire.

Your remains are not necessary for a future resurrection

Plenty of people are lost at sea, or die in fires, or perish in other ways that prevent bones or any physical remains from surviving. No more remains exist for the vast majority of every human who has ever lived. Do you doubt that the God who created everything from nothing will have any...

    Job's friends get undeserved condemnation.

Even after Job loses his wealth, his status, his children, and his health he remains faithful to God and without a blemish on his character until his friends arrive and begin pressing him to confess his sin. Job can't take his faithfullness being questioned. At first he maintains he is...
