  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Any nontheist Quakers in the house?

Any. For atheists, the normal reply is that monotheists don't believe in any other gods, and the atheists just believe in one less.

    Wait what? Quakers?

This is true, however one point to be made is that we believe that the Christ is not limited to the life and ministry of Jesus of Nazareth and that necessary grace is available without knowledge of Jesus as a historic person.

    Wait what? Quakers?

The point on the goodness of man does not negate the realization that everyone blows it from time to time. It is in contrast to the idea that everyone is hopelessly bad naturally, and Quakers as a rule don't buy that. The part about being a muslim and part of the Quaker family is true of some...

    Wait what? Quakers?

Know whatcha mean. When I started reading about Quaker beliefs and perceptions I felt like I had come home. I think a lot of s have Quakers back there somewhere. I found some on one side of the family in early Mass. and my grandmother on the other side used to tell about her grandfather when...

    Wait what? Quakers?

Most of the bases of belief are shared and the idea that sacraments have no value in themselves and should not be either required or depended on is really not all that important. That some Quakers think they should not be used at all is a bit of overreaction to abuses.

Question about Mennonite Brethren & Quakers

From what I have seen all Evangelical Quakers would say that homosexual activity is wrong though there is the beginning of some "threshing" appearing in the most liberal Yearly Meeting, Views on abortion are about the same. Drinking is generally frowned on, but not condemned as is drunkenness...

    Confession?

I really don't think that posting scripture for consideration should be viewed as a challenge. I'd say the response just before mine should be a good example of how to respons to such a post. Remember that the Pharisees were incensed that Jesus forgave sins. It is something that we all have the...

Any nontheist Quakers in the house?

My perceptions of the nature of God and the relationship of Jesus are certainly not conventional, but no, I am a theist. May I suggest that you check in with James Riemerman at nontheistfriends.org (if I remember correctly). A very articulate thinker who speaks of the community that he...

    Wait what? Quakers?

religioustolerance.org has the best breif write up I have seen. Briefly, Friends are divided into three basic categories, Conservative, Liberal and Evangelic. The Evangelic are by far the most numerous both here in the US and Africa, Liberal in Great Britain. Conservative is least in numbers in...
