  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

    Conviction vs Standard or Preference

I am sorry you continue to feel that way and I guess like other things I won't be able to change your opinion of me. I do respect the fact that other Christians have a different point of view on many issues. But that does not mean I have to validate those views. I have changed my position on...

    Conviction vs Standard or Preference

I agree with you, all laws are based on convictions of right and wrong(whatever the source of that conviction may be). I agree completely with your statement.

    Conviction vs Standard or Preference

ProudMomxmany, It is one thing to force your conviction down someone's throat and another to stand on it. If I went to the pro-choice Christian and physically assaulted them or told them I thought they were a jerk for having a pro-choice position or tried to physically force them to follow my...

    Conviction vs Standard or Preference

Right - if you are unsure of something, then its not a conviction. It may be a standard or preference, but not a conviction. Other people may interpret the Bible differently, and that is OK. You can always agree to respectfully disagree. But you for example if you meet a Christian that is ok...

    Conviction vs Standard or Preference

Where I am going with this is this - I am against abortion like you. Its a conviction, not a standard. I believe it is wrong for everyone based on my interpretation of the Word of God. So I might run into a Christian who thinks abortion not a sin, they don't share my conviction. Now I would...

Do fundamentalist's ignore the doctrines of the family?

Yes definitely I agree you hear radio preachers like the one's you mention hit hard on doctrines of marriage and family. In one church I went to in my early 20's we studied John MacArthurs "Different by Design". But aside from radio preachers, I am talking about the average fundy church. Do...

    Conviction vs Standard or Preference

If a conviction is something you hold to be "absolute truth", then unlike a standard, you would "expect the whole world to adhere to it" correct? I totally realize we cannot make other people follow our convictions(outside of our family of course). For example, lets say a person has a...

Do fundamentalist's ignore the doctrines of the family?

As a fellow fundamentalist(IFB) I sometimes wonder about this. You will hear plenty of talk about different view of eschatology in fundamental churches. You will hear plenty of talk about differing interpretations of church structure and practice. You will hear plenty of talk about differing...

Do you think a fundamentalist could be...

WannaWitness, I guess you have answered my question when it comes to views of women roles and fundamentalism. You see in the fundamentalist background I come from, women were encouraged to be barefoot and pregnant and put family before career. They were not against women working jobs(like...

Do you think a fundamentalist could be...

I am new to this particular forum although I have been in other forums here for a while. I grew up in and still attend an independent fundamental baptist church. I also realize(unlike many of my IFB brothers) that there are true fundamentalists of other denominations(and historically there...

    Conviction vs Standard or Preference

What do you all think is the difference between a Biblical conviction, and a standard or preference. In my home I have certain standards for how I want my kids to behave and what I expect from them, but I would not necessarily say these things are convictions that I think the Bible clearly...

What do we deserve? What do we have a right to?

I have removed this post. Moving to a different forum because of the animosity that exists toward me in general marriage forum. I am done posting in this particular forum.

What are God given rights or entitlements?

I tried posting this in another forum, but I think it actually belongs here. Most Christians would say as believers we "deserve nothing but hell" or something like that. Yet God grants rights and entitlements in the Bible. Let me give a few examples from the scriptures where rights or...

What do we deserve? What do we have a right to?

Actually the Bible does command wives to love their husbands, its just not in Ephesians 5, it is in Titus 2:3-4: 3 Likewise, teach the older women to be reverent in the way they live, not to be slanderers or addicted to much wine, but to teach what is good. 4 Then they can urge the younger...
