  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

    Baptism as Testimony

Granted, Paul's assertion was that there were some that he did not baptize. However, he also informs us that he DID baptize gentiles Crispus and Gaius and he also baptized some in the household of another gentile - Stephanas. And his point of emphasis was that having baptized a minority of...

    Baptism as Testimony

Paul baptized some in the Body of Christ, although it was not the focus of his calling. 1Cor 1:14-16 I thank God that I baptized none of you, but Crispus and Gaius; Lest any should say that I had baptized in mine own name. And I baptized also the household of Stephanas: besides, I know not...

    Baptism as Testimony

In fact Young’s Literal Translation provides the following translation of Heb 9:10, “only in victuals, and drinks, and different baptisms, and fleshly ordinances -- till the time of reformation imposed upon them.”

    Baptism as Testimony

So . . . The inspired text tells us that baptismos with water (literally water baptisms) were practiced in the Mosaic system. The fact that the English NT translators opted for wash/washing is not relevant to the point under consideration.

    Baptism as Testimony

Yes, βαπτισμός - translated as washings in Heb 9:10, as baptisms in Heb 6:2, and as baptism in Col 2:12. So , the Greek used to refer to baptism in Heb 6:2 and Col 2:12 is used in Heb 9:10 to reference washings in the Mosaic Covenant. So, OT washings with water could just as legitimately be...

    Baptism as Testimony

Can we start by agreeing that Hebrews 9:10 makes reference to various βαπτισμοῖς (baptisms) performed under the Mosaic Covenant, as described in the OT?

    Baptism as Testimony

According to the author of Hebrews 9:10, many baptisms (baptismos) were prescribed under the old covenant. And a survey of the various washings prescribed in Leviticus showed that, wherever the medium for washing was specified, that medium was to be water. So, water baptisms were first...

What is the purpose of infant baptism?

The rite signifies, in part, the promise of God to cleanse, wash away, the sin of any person who trusts in Jesus Christ for salvation. For those who hold to the reformed view of a monergistic regeneration, placing that sign upon their child accompanies their understanding that the eternal state...

    Efficacious Grace

None of which establishes the indwelling as synonymous with the rebirth. So . . . the only point that you made was that Nicodemus was not born again - another unsubstantiated assumption. What we know is that Nicodemus did not understand the second birth. Understanding of the second birth is not...

    Efficacious Grace

You equate the indwelling by the Holy Spirit with the new birth. This is not substantiated in Scripture and will consistently lead to incorrect conclusions.

What is the purpose of believer baptism?

Greek 907, "βαπτίζω baptízō, bap-tid'-zo; from a derivative of G911; to immerse, submerge; to make whelmed (i.e. fully wet); used only (in the New Testament) of ceremonial ablution, especially (technically) of the ordinance of Christian baptism:—Baptist, baptize, wash." Speaking of the...

What is the purpose of believer baptism?

Would you care to offer biblical evidence for the position that "Baptism means immersion"?

2Pet 3:9 does not mean that God "wants" everybody saved. Part 1.

2 Peter 3:1 Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have obtained like precious faith with us through the righteousness of God and our Saviour Jesus Christ . . . 2 Peter 3:9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is...

What was Jesus’ purpose if sins were forgiven before His Incarnation?

Gup20 said, “I know that Calvinists do not believe in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ -- they say Christ didn't actually die spiritually (death is separation from God) and therefore didn't resurrect from the dead. To me, denying the death and resurrection of Christ is heresy.” Wow...
