  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Why Marriage? (NOT a Homosexuality Thread)

So why not define a marriage as "any group of adults raising one or more children together" or "any group of adults who are not related by blood, but wish to be legally recognized as family"?

    Wal-Mart selling gay action figures

This is not New Anyone worried about gay superheroes needs to read the history of Wonder Woman. Her creator (William Moulton Marston) was a psychologist who believed that the keys to utopia were matriarchy and bondage. He had two wives who went on as a lesbian couple and raised their four...

Why Marriage? (NOT a Homosexuality Thread)

Do we really need to ensure the propogation of the race? Humans seem to breed like rabbits, no matter what. There are already 6.5 billion of us. Why try to accelerate reproduction? Isn't encouraging adoption at least as important? Besides, what about infertile couples?

Why Marriage? (NOT a Homosexuality Thread)

Alright. What is the purpose of marriage (and/or civil unions) as a secular institution? (In a country with separation of church and state, its religious purpose shouldn't matter with regards to legislation.) Obviously, this thread is related to issues surrounding gay marriage. However...

    Scientific Morality?

There is a natural basis for morality, or at least parts of it: we're social animals, and thus have a strong herd instinct. This is not to say that herd instinct is or should be the only basis of morality. You don't have to look very far to see that instinct and natural things aren't...

    Scientific Morality?

The fact that difficult questions are involved does not mean they should go unexamined. 1. Famous research in Field X was fraudulent. 2. Therefore, Field X is fraudulent. 1. Famous proponents of Field X were frauds. 2. Therefore, Field X is fraudulent. This is both an ad hominem and a...

    Scientific Morality?

On the original topic... Yes, science is useful for morality. Science is useful for most things. Science can give us new knowledge to test our morality against. Wondering whether your government's system for punishing criminals is helpful, or could be improved? Want to know whether certain...

    Scientific Morality?

First off, will people please drop the social Darwinism and eugenics straw men? Both are examples of bad science, not badly used science. Social Darwinism assumes that immitating a natural phenomenon will lead produce positive results. You might as well use the flight patterns of birds to...

The pro-legalization agenda is grounded on flawed premise

Ugh. One more post and I'm through with this thread. That doesn't mean they're right. If the judges had determined the opposite, you'd probably say they were wrong. They didn't, therefore I think they're wrong. The fact that something is the law does not mean it's unquestionably right...

The pro-legalization agenda is grounded on flawed premise

I see your judges and raise you: The American Academy of Pediatrics The Child Welfare League of America The National Association of Social Workers The American Psychological Association I sense a sampling error, here. In showing whether children of gay parents are prone to homosexual...

The pro-legalization agenda is grounded on flawed premise

You still apparently can't find any studies stating that gay parenting is harmful. This one only says that some studies determining the opposite were conducted poorly.

The pro-legalization agenda is grounded on flawed premise

"More precisely, it has further undermined the institution. The separation of marriage from parenthood was increasing; gay marriage has widened the separation. Out-of-wedlock birthrates were rising; gay marriage has added to the factors pushing those rates higher. Instead of encouraging a...

The pro-legalization agenda is grounded on flawed premise

Let's break this down. Marriage has two purposes: 1. Encourage parents to provide stable homes for their children. 2. Perpetuate the species. I'll grant you that the second purpose doesn't support gay marriage. However, the first purpose does. Gay parents can and do provide stable homes for...
