There is a difference between female heroes and what Disney has been trying to do. I'm not sure how to describe it other than it feels like they are forcing it, rather than develop it and the result comes off silly. I have enjoyed rebels, except when they forget how to write plots.

I think the literature for both are worth reading.. predisney that is, post disney has yet to do more than be unnecessarily political.

I'm hopeful about Hollywood making completely true and accurate movies.

Oh good, my dad is an avid star trek fan, and thinks all of it is realistic. That said, I'm not a fan of the new star wars trilogy.

I find all of star trek science abit off and inconsistent.

Personally, the real question is passion for each sci-fi series. Both groups of fans have a deep running enjoyment of their own series because they can relate to those in it the most.
