  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

    sorta ignorant, huh?

well, the Orthodox say to work out your salvation. labour. not sit back, my friend. yes of course many will say "Lord, Lord..." maybe the lazy ones. the ones who are not well practiced in love. after all, that is the only saving commandment. and if we are lazy in that....Lord have mercy on our...

    sorta ignorant, huh?

are you implying that Catholics are not Christian? or Orthodox? or are just the one's who say they are Jewish the only saved?

    sorta ignorant, huh?

thanks goober! this was, in some ways, what i was looking for. not necessarily what Messianic Jews believe in. i will look into those resources you provided soon when i have some more time. i'd really like for this discussion to evolve, so let's not call it an end. thanks again. david

    sorta ignorant, huh?

when did Messianic Judaism become a denomination/sect/what-have-you of Judaism/Christianity? that would make sense that there wouldn't be a Jew at the Council of Nicea. Cause it was a Christian council. why would they add yet another group with another theological difference, on top of the...

    sorta ignorant, huh?

don't all Jew's believe in the coming of the Messiah? or are you referring to Jesus? but i realized that, more or less. as you said, it's in the name. well, i should probably elaborate a little. let me give an example of what i'm looking for. the early church started around 50ish years (can't...

    sorta ignorant, huh?

ok, i may sound terribly ignorant to some....i was talking with a friend about it, and i realized that i know nothing about Messianic Judaism. but here it goes. what did Messianic Judaism stem from? and i don't mean "the Jewish Religion and Christianity." i mean historically, where does it all...

Did Mary, Mother of Jesus, have other children? (2)

thanks for the humility check, rick. i certainly did not intend to say even half of what i said, but i let my zeal have the best of me. and i certainly did not represent the EOC well. i apologize. i will look into that verse a little more, and attempt to leave my zeal at the front door.

Did Mary, Mother of Jesus, have other children? (2)

it's about time someone brings in a new point! thank you. you have a good explanation of that. i don't really have a lot of time to reply to it, so i will do that another time. or perhaps someone will beat me to the punch. at any rate, thanks for being peaceful about it.

Did Mary, Mother of Jesus, have other children? (2)

how is Holy Tradition not God-breathed? were the pens of the saints (apostles/disciples) only blessed and not there mouths?or perhaps st. John's silence... that's the thing, we would say that He has revealed it to you, though we be unworthy souls to utter Truth. but, i guess you could say...

Did Mary, Mother of Jesus, have other children? (2)

was that the only reason for Jesus coming? cause if so, that is a very mild reason for His coming. what of his ascension? what of his resurrection? that idea that He only came to atone for our sins all started with anselm, and just caused a slippery slope. and i don't see how it "making sense"...

Did Mary, Mother of Jesus, have other children? (2)

the thing is, common sense changes. as we see in history. it was common sense that Mary was EV in the early years of the church. but, whether because of an agenda, or because of a grudge against seemingly roman traditions, that common knowledge has changed among modern Christendom. i just don't...

Did Mary, Mother of Jesus, have other children? (2)

we've actually discussed the "until" in matt. 1:25. though it really didn't convince any heterodox, it means something different in greek than it does in english. it's not like english where the time that the "until" defines is when the action being referenced (in this case, Mary's perpetual...

Orthodox and Catholic: Can they reunite?

it says you edited this...well my friend you should edit it again. maybe just get rid of this statement altogether. i really don't see why the Orthodox should submit to some high official that seems to think he is the Vicar of Christ. it was not until 1000 years after the church started that the...

    Baby baptism

the point of infant baptism is not to impart some knowledge to the infant, and make him understand God's grace (cause not even a fully grown adult can understand!), and the point of faith is not even to understand, but instead, to trust (as a child does) so much so that there need not be proof...
