  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Anyone watching the 20/20 special on the FLDS?

Rats - I missed it! I'd love to have seen that one. What did y'all think of it? Was there "inside" experience related by FLDS people? Did any of them mention how they compare Jeffs with Smith? Did any of them say what they think of Jeffs now?

    Photo that I found online

Several LDS posters have commented in this very thread, as well as others, since that admin change was implemented a few days ago. It was my understanding that it applied to the Unorthodox Christianity part of the forum, but that it's okay for them to post here. Someone please correct me if I'm...

    LDS Grace and Other Blessings

Mormonism teaches that each person must earn his/her own salvation, made possible only through the atonement and sacrifice of the Savior - and, of course, the devout obedience to all the commandments and the performance of all the salvific temple ordinances, even if by proxy. In the case of...

[closed] Major Changes to posting in this forum

It's the past that presents the theological problem: in order for Christ to have progressed to His godhood, as Mormonism teaches, would that not mean that you believe that at one time in His existence He must not have yet been divine - and therefore changed? And where did anyone here say or...

    Time to say goodbye.

I may be an ex-Mo and therefore "accepted" under the new CF rules, but I have to say that I will miss my LDS friends here. Are you thinking I'm crazy for calling you my friends, when we've butted theological heads here so many times? I don't look at it that way at all. That I no longer believe...

JST: Joseph Smith changing the words of this book (Revelation)

Joseph Smith's extra-marital "marriages" have always been known about in the church, and in fact until last year you could find a public record of the sealings online. When I went to retrieve it, however, I discovered that it had been taken down, and then not long after that the church published...

JST: Joseph Smith changing the words of this book (Revelation)

It has recently finally come out to admit that he practiced polygamy, which flabbergasted a lot of people, including a lot of TBMs who are now taking a long, hard look at their testimonies if they haven't in fact already resigned. But since parts of the JST are a part of canonized LDS scripture...

JST: Joseph Smith changing the words of this book (Revelation)

Dr. Steve, would you give us the literal translation of the Greek, please? How I wish I'd known Greek when the missionaries gave me those lessons back in the sixties!

    LDS teachings on God

I understood that that was your inference; my most recent post was to correct your inference and to explain my meaning, instead, which corresponds with definition No. 4, also from dictionary.com, to wit: belonging characteristically (usually followed by to):

And what would that "view that all of the other churches have of themselves" be, and how on earth can you make such a sweeping generalization when there are so many of them?

    LDS teachings on God

Since no part of that particular comment mentioned how or when any person would enter into godhood - only that in Mormonism no unmarried person could do so - I would be very grateful if you could point to the exact comment or part where the speculation took place, and thank you.

    LDS teachings on God

My dear Sir, that phrase, "basic Bible stuff," was a direct quote from your own post. And since you believed it basic and it was in the Bible, why would it be anything other than easy for you to substantiate, and why would you take issue/offense at my comment to that effect? It was not at all...

    LDS teachings on God

This is baffling. To point out that your idea seemed to differ from that of your church authorities was somehow rude, or to ask for an explanation for that was rude, or to ask again when the original request was ignored was rude...which? I have made a deliberate effort not to employ rude...

    LDS teachings on God

D&C 76:95. "And he makes them equal in power, and in might, and in dominion. "Equal" is not exactly the same thing as "like." And you did not answer my question about agreeing/disagreeing with your general authorities. Would you be so kind?
