  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

    Impeachment and the Law

Most of what's in the US Constitution is to gum things up. The founders truly believed that government that governs best is that which is closest-- local then state then federal. Just looking at the Articles of Confederation will show you the distrust that they had for a centralized government...

Who's the shortest man in the Bible?

What about Peter? He slept on his watch Matthew 26:40

    I knew it! (Regarding impeachment)

I don't think you can go by what the polls are saying. I know many Trump voters are lying to pollsters-- they loved seeing all the media networks proven wrong on election night and wouldn't mind seeing it again. I think we're looking at Trump willing to try to be another first-- the first...

    Feminism

I do find it interesting that we can say that there are some feminists that are bad and went too far, but all patriarchal men are despots that deserve to be overthrown. How does feminism square with the Bible? It's hard to escape that woman was created for man, and that part of the curse had...

Dr. Ruth: Women can't say no to sex once naked in bed

Rape is violent, abusive, and wrong... And yet the bible apparently makes all sorts of apologetics towards rape. The concept of "marital rape" straight up does not exist within the bible, and the idea that a woman is responsible for getting raped if she doesn't scream loud enough is horrifying...

Dr. Ruth: Women can't say no to sex once naked in bed

As this is a Christian Forum, let me call back to the Bible. Married believer's bodies are not their own-- I Cor 7. The wife is to submit to the husband in everything and the husband is to practice self-sacrificing love toward the wife -- Eph 5:22ff. In the Old Testament, rape was...

Why is Contraception Considered Morally Acceptable?

The main question concerning morality is, what does God think about preventing children? What we do know is that God commanded everyone, starting with Adam and Eve, to be fruitful and multiply. The Bible calls children a blessing, and even a quick reading of the Old Testament shows many women...

    The Duggar Scandal

I repeat what I said before. It's gossip. It's none of my business what happened in their lives, who did or did not do whatever. That's why they call tabloids "Gossip Rags". It's great for generating outrage and holier-than-thou posturing, but little else. Jesus calls us to rise above...

    The Duggar Scandal

I found it interesting that, as I read the first post and multiple in between, it strikes me that many have an innate understanding that having this discussion is wrong. It's borne out by all the reasoning and defending people are doing to attempt to justify why we as people that have never met...

    What happens in a divorce?

I've recently been having the conversation regarding what it means to be married biblically. I think that we've conflated the idea of what God thinks of marriage and what the society deems as marriage. Like has been said before, God's idea of marriage lasts much longer than man believes it to be.

Can I be Christian and Not Believe the Bible?

With 11 pages of replies, not sure that I can add much new. In the book of Romans we learn that without specific revelation, man cannot find God. He can see that there was a Creator, but not that He sent His Son to die. While reading the New Testament, we find quickly that everything that...

The Full Spectrum of Christian Belief on Origins - where are you?

There's a big difference between evidence and interpretation-- and that's what I'm trying to get you to see. When you come to a historical question, you consult historical sources. You wouldn't go to science to ask them when Julius Caesar lived-- and even if you did and the radiometric dating...

The Full Spectrum of Christian Belief on Origins - where are you?

Talk origins is not proof that Adam and Eve did not exist and that God did not create the world in six days like He said. All you're offering are links to people that have no more information than what they can test about what is going on now and then guess as to what has happened in the past...

The Full Spectrum of Christian Belief on Origins - where are you?

Again, if I light a candle two hours ago, and leave you a note the exact time that I left it and you come later and hypothesize not only about the time the candle was burning but the original length of the candle, was I deceitful? We take processes that we see today, and measure against today...

The Full Spectrum of Christian Belief on Origins - where are you?

#3 - I'm a young earth creationist. There's nothing I've seen in science that "proves" that what we can see and test today is how it has always been. The whole "deceitful God" logic is interesting, but that begs the question who is he deceiving/how are they deceived. If I place 20 candies in...
