  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

LCMS member and taking communion at other churches?

Theologically, I align most with the LCMS when it comes to the Eucharist. I have friends in other churches and enjoy visiting them—I value being ecumenical. Sometimes when I visit, those churches offer the Eucharist. Many are somewhat Reformed and believe in the spiritual presence, but they...

    The Eucharist

Hello, I understand that Presbyterians typical believe in the spiritual presence while Lutherans believe in both the spiritual and physical presence in the Eucharist. What would you say to the person that says that Lutherans have greater historical attestation from the following quotes of...

At least 2 killed, dozens injured in Christmas market attack in Germany

Yeah after further research I read that as well. What this shows is how atheism is not a good alternative for people to convert to. In atheism they don't have Christ as their guide but rather start viewing people as just highly evolved apes instead of beings that have intrinsic value. Muhammad...

At least 2 killed, dozens injured in Christmas market attack in Germany

Islamic preacher in Germany: “You can’t stone a woman for adultery in Germany, but when we establish an Islamic state here, stoning will be legally allowed under Sharia.” This culture is mental illness! https://x.com/i/status/1870164778473369677

understanding faith and works from a Catholic perspective...

I got those statements from Dr. Craig who I have a lot of respect for. You can view it here: https://www.reasonablefaith.org/question-answer/P20/faith-and-works Dr. Craig is not a Calvinist but rather a Molinist.

understanding faith and works from a Catholic perspective...

That is a good article and thanks for sharing. So from what I can gather the differences are rather nuanced and fundamentally we are all in agreement that faith in Christ is all that is needed for salvation. Quote from article: "James isn’t saying that you need to do good works in order to be...

understanding faith and works from a Catholic perspective...

I think one of the main stated differences between Protestants and Catholics is the notion of faith and works. From a Catholic perspective, are you in disagreement with the statement below: "But in Christianity, good deeds are the necessary concomitant or outflow of sincere faith, not...

I listened to that interview as well. Awesome interview! I recently saw the movie "Sounds of Freedom". So impactful that people going to see it have purchased 2.5 million free tickets for others to watch. They want to get the word out and you can get free tickets here if you would like...

    Trying to understand Calvinism

When you state that it isn't Orthodoxy do you mean that Calvinism has been the traditional view. What view has the earliest attestation? It doesn't seem like any view does. I read a greek orthodox claiming that arminianism was much closer to their view than calvinism. Omnipotent means to...

    Trying to understand Calvinism

On a personal note, I hope people realize that this is a peripheral issue, it is not fundamental to the faith, and that there are many things that are mysterious that we will never know. We should focus on living our lives according to what Christ commanded us. The gospel isn’t supposed to be...

    Trying to understand Calvinism

Thanks for the response. You do know your stuff. Why I am responding. I have read and have heard reports of people leaving Christianity because of Calvinism. This is sad to hear. I myself am trying to see if they were misinterpreting it etc. With free will it would have to be an uncaused...

    Trying to understand Calvinism

Free will simply means that there is an entity, me, that is free from external influences and can make decisions based on the person's own internal makeup. Dictionary it states, "the ability to act at one's own discretion." I am not too sure what you mean by the second answer. From my...

    Trying to understand Calvinism

Do you guys believe in Free Will? Do you believe that we have free will but it is just that we all are so corrupt that we don't choose right? Because of this then it is up to God to have mercy on those he has mercy? Also do you believe God causes/moves people to sin? What would you make of...
