  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

The Best Book to Introduce Someone to Orthodoxy

For myself, but also to recommend to others. I am interested for a well-rounded book on theology and spirituality (you can't separate the two, can you? ;)). And NOT an easy-read simplification. I am a high church Protestant, Anglican and/or Lutheran. While I know a fair bit about EO and share...

The Best Book to Introduce Someone to Orthodoxy

If someone who was moderately knowledgeable about Christianity, theology, and Christian traditions asked you what single read would be the best for them to read to understand Orthodoxy better, what would be your answer? I know there might be some differences of opinion here, that's fine. ;)...

How long have you been a centrist?

Dispensationalism is a new, and in my opinion, ignorant and semi-heretical idea of 200 years age. Genesis never had to be taken literally, as in it being all pure history. Young Earth Creationism came about by radical anti-modernists, mainly in America, who were scared at the way society and...

    Humanist Christian?

Because a "secular humanist" by most definitions doesn't believe in God or religion, cannot be a Christian. Christians can certainly be "liberal" or "secular" though, or be religiously humanist.

    Apostolic Succession

Do Eastern Orthodox consider Anglicans (and many Lutherans) to have valid AS? Why or why not? I've had a difficult time trying to find out about this, so I'd really appreciate it if you guys could help me out.

Anglician view on the real presence.

I know that many Anglicans in Australia are low-church. In some places, most are evangelical and Calvinist in theology (so they deny the real presence).

    A Question to Ponder

I'm not sure what your asking. The King James usually has "Holy Ghost". It also apparently translated it as Holy Spirit a few times. There is no reason for that, they just weren't totally consistent in their translating. The newer versions use "Holy Spirit", because that is more accurate in...

Anglician view on the real presence.

Many Anglicans do. However, many don't, especially the low-church side, who often hold a Reformed view. It really depends. Also, Lutherans always believe in the Real Presence.

    A Question to Ponder

The answer is very simple! The King James Version translates the word as "Holy Ghost". The word "ghost" back then simply meant spirit, so it was an accurate translation for the time. You'll find that people who use the King James often use this word. All the more modern version use "Holy Spirit".

The statistic for natural scientists ("real" scientists) is over 99%.

    What's an ELCA church like?

The services are liturgical, often very similar to Roman Catholic services.

    Liberal theology on hell

Depends on the church and the individuals in the church. Liberal churches have really diverse beliefs. So many views on this issue are held. I think very often though, yes, liberals tend to believe that salvation is not exclusive; you don't need to be a Christian exactly to be saved. This is...

are not all protrstant denominations liberal in a sense?

I think it is true that protestantism is liberal or tends to liberalism. Protestants stress the autonomy of the individual; what matters is your personal faith and interpretation of scripture, and you have a right to disagree with the church. Thus the thousands of Protestant denominations. ;)...
