  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Born again morality as opposed to the worlds morality.

That is absolutely correct, both that I said it, and the truth of it. Humans in general have a minority of people who are so exceptionally good, kind, compassionate, and just that others take notice. And there is a very small minority that is absolutely evil--considering how few there actually...

Born again morality as opposed to the worlds morality.

Oh puhleeze. Like Jews haven't done enormous good? Tikkun olam (repair of the world) is a major value. There is nothing specific that you mention that we don't do too. Actually, standard Christianity teaches that the fall corrupted the universe. A strong belief in the afterlife is actually...

Did the Jews Introduce Morality to the Ancient World?

As you said, it is the nature of polytheism that prevents a single ethical code on a spiritual level. It makes no sense to abide by the ethics of the god of war one week, and then the ethics of the goddess of love the next. Morals were civilly enforced by the government or the elders of the tribe.

Born again morality as opposed to the worlds morality.

I haven't noticed ANYTHING different about Christians in terms of morality.

Can you have justice without judgment?

No, you can't have justice without judgment. However, you can judge actions rather than people. I don't think I'm a better person simply because I have great empathy, which makes me a very kind person. It is not any virtue that gave me that good wiring, and it is not my virtue that made me...

Did the Jews Introduce Morality to the Ancient World?

We Jews did not introduce morality to the world, but we did something equally interesting. We were the first to connect morality to the worship of a deity. It was such a successful idea that it spread around the world. Today people assume that religions teach you right from wrong. We have...

Is belief/non-belief a morally culpable state?

When I was a child, I assumed people chose what they believed. Then I grew up. Here is the problem: 1. Our senses are not entirely accurate. Our eyes, ears, etc., don't always work the way they should and there are many things that exist for which we have no ability to sense. 2. Our...

“Faith, Ethics, and Everyday Choices: How Do We Live Righteously Today?”

Do you realize that you have placed your thread in an area designated as interfaith? I'm not a Christian, but I'm going to reply anyhow. My ethics are really quite simple: "What is hateful to you, don't do to others. That is the WHOLE Torah. All the rest is commentary."

    Empathy

All moral systems are built on a foundation of two things: empathy and a sense of fairness. People instinctively know something is wrong because they anticipate and feel the pain it would cause others. You take away empathy, and what you have is a psychopath or sociopath without a conscience...

    Selfishness

How about putting the health of others at risk by not vaccinating.

    Wife getting massages

You are describing a typical professional message. Are you similarly disturbed when i.e. she is disrobed for a medical exam by a male doctor?

    Jesus & Social Justice

I don't see why not. Inspiration doesn't imply inerrant. It's still written by fallible human beings.

Does "equality" even matter to Jesus?

    If you say so.

What it actually says is that if the woman doesn't cry out, it means she wasn't raped. It shows an ignorance of how women actually do respond to rape in real life -- it is men superimposing what makes sense in their imaginations onto women. Today we have actual scientific studies that disprove...

Dude, I was the one who first quoted the verse to you. That's why I'm asking you, did you even bother to read what I wrote?
